The news from Cupertino: “Apple’s string of new subscription services pushes advertising mostly out of the picture,” Ad Age’s Garett Sloane writes in his summary of Monday’s big announcements from the tech giant, “but for the magazine industry that is a major partner in Apple’s expanded news offering, there will be ads nonetheless.” Sloane notes that “When Apple executives showed off Apple News Plus, a new subscription magazine service, the focus was on 300 glossy magazines but not the ad experience.” But Doug Olson, president of Meredith Magazines, tells Ad Age that “Every ad from the print edition will be in the digital edition. GameStop sponsors esports complex where Dallas Cowboys train


Diving deeper into the world of competitive video-game action, GameStop Corp. acquired naming rights to a new training facility being built on the grounds of the Dallas Cowboys headquarters.

The 11,000-square-foot GameStop Performance Center will include a public area where fans can watch matches, as well as a studio and training facility for CompLexity Gaming’s players. CompLexity Gaming, majority-owned by the Dallas Cowboys’ Jerry Jones and real estate investor John Goff, fields teams playing Fortnite and other titles. Financial terms weren’t given.

CompLexity’s players will be able to eat breakfast and lunch five days a week right next to the Cowboys. “This is a big step toward the growth of esports,” said CompLexity CEO Jason Lake. “When you get this kind of support it helps legitimize everything we’ve been doing for years.”

The three spots suggest as much. In each, it is FirstBank’s good customer service that astonishes. A husband transformed into a hedgehog, or able to walk on water, or a neighbor’s alien abduction, not so much.
