ABSOLUT was about to make it’s first big campaign in Slovakia. Based on Absolut’s worldwide brand heritage of bringing different people together to share good times, it launched a largely controversial campaign that digged deep into Slovak culture.

Featuring a black female singer along with a well known folklore song verse “Slovak mothers great daughters you have” it bursted the advertising bubble immediately, becoming the number one topic in the society for weeks.

Cheddar expands into prime-time programming


Cheddar, the self-proclaimed “post-cable” network, is expanding its programming into one of cable TV’s hallmarksprime time.

The new initiative, called Cheddar Premier, will feature shows covering topics such as business experiences across generations and leisure travel from a local perspective. The initial set of four half-hour original series will offer brands a chance to integrate with the show’s editorial focus.

“We want to make sure that the brand feels like it’s an authentic integration,” said Melissa Rosenthal, Cheddar’s executive vice president.

Ford takes targeted marketing approach for Ranger comeback


Ford is taking a local marketing approach as brings its Ranger pickup truck back to the U.S. after an eight-year absence.

The automaker partnered with Outside TV on a campaign debuting today that pitches the truck to outdoor adventurists. The effort includes a national TV spot called “Strange Creatures,” (above) plus ads that are specifically tailored for Boston, Los Angeles, Denver, Phoenix and Seattle.

In assembling the local spots, Ford partnered with Outside TV and Google to identify what adventure activities and personalities resonate in each city based on search trends. An ad targeting Denver, for instance, features river kayaker Tyler Bradt, backcountry skier Cynthia Johnson and Mickey Wilson, a base jumper and slackliner. Slacklining is an emerging outdoor sport that resembles tightrope walking.
