Seth Meyers pre-explained the surprise 'Green Book' Best Picture Oscar

Trying to make sense of the surprise Best Picture Oscar for “Green Book” last night? Plenty of publications are serving up analyses this morning, including Vox:

And The New York Times is promoting an essay by Wesley Morris that was actually published on Jan. 27, when the chances of a “Green Book” Best Picture Oscar looked slim:

But perhaps the most vivid take on “Green Book” and its ilk comes in the form of a faux movie trailer (embedded above) from “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” which the show released last week in the run-up to the Academy Awards. “White Savior,” an announcer intones, has “all the things white people love in movies about racism”and then the trailer proceeds to dutifully tick off those clichs.

AT&T defeats U.S. appeal to kill Time Warner deal

AT&T Inc. beat back another effort by the U.S. to undo its purchase of Time Warner, cementing an $85 billion deal to help it compete with Netflix Inc.

The Justice Department failed to establish that a lower-court judge made a clear error when he rejected the government’s case that AT&T should be blocked from buying Time Warner on antitrust grounds. Pending any further appeal, the ruling ends the Trump administration’s attempt to unravel a tie-up the U.S. said would lead to higher prices for pay-TV subscribers around the country.

“The government’s objections that the district court misunderstood and misapplied economic principles and clearly erred in rejecting the quantitative model are unpersuasive,” the court said in a 35-page ruling.

If I knew then what I know now … I'd manage my expectations

If I knew then what I know now is a series of bylines from small agency executives about the lessons they learned in building their shops.

No matter how much intestinal fortitude you think you have, it will be tested at levels you never imagined when you launch an agency.

If you’re like us, you walk away from a very secure and stable paycheck, deplete your savings to get set up, and face startup stress that will trickle down to your family in ways you can’t even imagine. Then, over time, the fear of “Will anyone call us?” becomes “OK, were getting called, but which calls are the right ones to take?” All the while, you’ll be riding the constant rollercoaster of emotions that will swing from “This is fucking incredible!!” to “Oh, my God, what have we done?!”

Elon Musk lays into the SEC with more tweets after U.S. contempt claim

Musk was taking issue with the SEC alleging he breached that deal with a Feb. 19 tweet that said Tesla would make about half a million cars in 2019. The chief executive officer posted a few hours later that deliveries would only reach about 400,000. The exchanges come less than five months after Musk settled claims that he misled the public with tweets about taking the electric-car maker private.

In a tweet after the SEC filing, Musk said the SEC overlooked a comment he made on the company’s Jan. 30 earnings call that Tesla may make as many as 500,000 of its Model 3 sedans this year.
