Move over, Oprah: WW adds two new celeb spokespeople to join her

Hudson (above) and Williams (below) announced their plans to their fans on social media.

WW has had 11 consecutive quarters of member growth. At the close of the third quarter, it tallied 4.2 million subscribers but expects to end 2018 with about 4 million subscribers, since it’s a seasonal business and plenty of the people who start the year off with weight loss goals see their desire wane as the months progress. Even so, the 4 million number is well above the close of last year, when it counted 3.2 million subscribers.

In January, which is peak season for weight loss, WW will face fresh marketing from Nutrisystem and other brands eager to woo their own new customers. But WW isn’t just updating its ads. The FitPoints that its members track are now more personalized. Chat groups were added in the WW app to appeal to members in life stages, such as pregnancy, or with certain interests, such as vegetarianism. A loyalty program was introduced. So was content from meditation app Headspace. There are now audio workouts from Aaptiv. And Blue Apron will begin offering WW Freestyle-inspired meals in January.

Baby Dove: Too Many Cooks, Witching Hour, Dream Feeder

Baby Dove

Prior to launching Baby Dove, research indicated that 99% of moms feel pressure to be perfect. And 81% question if what they’re doing is good enough. So we set out to connect with moms in a manner that was consistent with Dove’s real beauty heritage: by making them feel beautiful, instead of inadequate. To capture the beauty of being a real mom, we commissioned several world-renowned female photojournalists. By immersing themselves in 6 real moms’ lives 24/7, they captured the beautifully imperfect side of motherhood. The resulting 120 photos were showcased in our online gallery of real moms, in OOH, newspaper and social.

HQ Trivia's co-founder and CEO has died: Monday Wake-Up Call

Welcome to Ad Age’s Wake-Up Call, our daily roundup of advertising, marketing, media and digital news. Friendly reminder: The deadline for the Ad Age A-List Awards is tomorrow at 5 p.m. EST. (Creativity Awards have until Jan. 8).

What people are talking about today

Colin Kroll, the co-founder of the HQ Trivia quiz app and the Vine short video platform, was found dead in New York this weekend, news reports say. Kroll, HQ Trivia’s CEO, was 34. Bloomberg News reports that police found drugs on the premises and are awaiting a medical examiner’s report on what caused his death. There was no HQ Trivia game Sunday night; instead host Scott Rogowsky made brief remarks in Kroll’s memory. “Colin, or C.K. as we called him, was a true visionary who changed the game twice, first with Vine and then with this very app,” Rogowsky said. Because Kroll was an animal lover who often brought his dog to work, the app says it will donate the night’s $25,000 cash prize to the Humane Society.

Coors Light exec dishes on brand's comeback plan, agency relationships

Coors Light is coming in from the mountains and heading back to the bar as it looks to overcome a long-running sales slump. A new round of ads portrays sweaty, thirsty people grabbing some frosty brews in search of a refreshing respite.

One ad (above) is set inside a hot bar. Another one shows a sun-drenched tailgate party.

The scenes are a curious creative choice, considering that much of the country is buried in snow or dealing with freezing temperatures. But Ryan Reis, VP of the Coors family of brands for MillerCoors, says the approach is meant to dial-up Coors Light’s longtime marketing position as the “World’s Most Refreshing Beer.”
