Kia is heading back to the Super Bowl


Kia will extend its Super Bowl ad streak to 10 years. A spokesman for the auto brand confirmed Kia’s return. The ad will be handled by U.S. agency-of-record David & Goliath, but the automaker declined to confirm other details.

Kia has a history of using celebrities in its Super Bowl ads. Its 2018 spot featured Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler kicking a Kia Stinger in reverse, setting off a trip back in time that leaves him rediscovering his youth. Kia took a humorous approach in 2017 with a spot starring Melissa McCarthy that won USA Today’s Ad Meter. The brand used Christopher Walken in 2016 and Pierce Brosnan in 2015.

Kia is the second automaker to confirm an ad in the Feb. 3 game broadcast by CBS. Mercedes-Benz, which is based in Atlanta, where the Super Bowl will be played, is also running a spot. Other brands that have confirmed ads include Anhsueser-Busch InBev, Colgate, Avocados from Mexico and WeatherTech.

Amazon is letting Apple Music onto its Alexa speakers


Amazon.com Inc. opened up its popular home speakers to Apple Inc.’s music service, a new step in the nascent cooperation between the two tech rivals.

Beginning Dec. 17, Apple Music will be available on Amazon’s Echo devices, according to a statement on Amazon’s blog Friday.

Music has always been one of Alexa’s most popular features, Amazon said. And Apple’s streaming service boasts about 45 million paying users, according to analysis firm Loup Ventures, second only to Spotify Technology SA, which is already accessible on the Echo.

In the Company of Huskies has launched an emotional new campaign with Ireland’s biggest charity St. Vincent de Paul (SVP). Called ‘Save someone from a life of poverty” it juxtaposes the saddening reality of the long-term effects of poverty on young people’s lives and the positive impact made possible through donations.

In this film, viewers see an exam hall full of students, but with one empty desk. In a sombre tone, the narrator tells us that the student’s mother had her work hours cut. The boy had to miss a crucial exam just to keep food on the table. The exam has begun and there’s little hope of him making it. In an emotional turn, the door opens, he arrives and is able to sit the test. Through donations made to the charity, he is saved from a life of poverty.

In the Company of Huskies continues its partnership with SVP having created the multi-award-winning platform ‘A yes can last a lifetime’ for the charity in 2015. The campaign had a significant impact in Ireland.

I hear it all the time: Media pitches these days, many believe, are the opposite of fun. Actually, I hear a lot of colorful language when it comes to this process, but I’ll spare your delicate eyeballs.

ID Comms and the 4A’s took a look at the process in the U.S. and did some qualitative and quantitative research with media agency leaders to find the pain points of media pitches in a bid to make them better. ID Comms is a media consulting company that runs agency pitches, media audits and offers cost tracking, digital media consulting and other services. It recently opened up shop in New York.

The research, released this week, indicates that U.S. advertisers aren’t getting the best responses from potential media agency partners for a litany of reasons, ranging from lack of transparency about the selection process to not specifically defining what they are looking for. The most important factor media agency executives consider in prioritizing pitches and determining how much time and money they invest is the clarity on an advertiser’s pitch process, from evaluation criteria to the ultimate decisionmakers, the report says.
