4 of the Most Controversial Print Ads From Calvin Klein, Which Says It’s Done With Magazines

Calvin Klein has spent decades courting controversy with its deliberately provocative advertising in glossy magazines, but those days are now numbered. The brand is ditching print…

Patrick Mahomes' love of ketchup leads to deal with Hunt's

Patrick Mahomes’ love of ketchup has led to a month of speculation over whether the star quarterback would sign an endorsement deal for one of America’s favorite condiments. He’s gone with the underdog, picking Hunt’s over the much-larger Heinz.

The second-year Kansas City Chiefs player has admitted to putting the red stuff on foods including macaroni and cheese and steak. After the somewhat different (yet probably not that uncommon) eating style was reported in an ESPN feature story in which Mahomes was hesitant to ask for ketchup to go with his steak, it led to speculation about whether he’d get an endorsement deal.

Even the Chiefs posted a video about it. Heinz repeatedly reached out to Mahomes on social media, with a 57 touchdowns-themed plan.

Ford gets PR bang from noise-cancelling dog kennel

We’re not exactly sure what the brand is selling by swapping out the faces of the family, including the dog, but it scored high on Ace Metrix’s “Left Field” measurement, which ranks ads that appear “outside the realm of possibility.” Is that a good thing? Who knows, but it found its way to the top of this list. So there’s that.

Other winners include Huggies for “most heartfelt ad,” while Farmers took the crown for funniest ad. See both below.

This bud's for you: Anheuser Busch InBev enters cannabis market

Anheuser Busch InBev, which has stayed on the sidelines of the cannabis trend as other alcohol marketers made investments, is finally jumping on the marijuana bandwagon. The world’s largest brewer today announced a partnership with Canadian-based cannabis company Tilray to research non-alcohol beverages containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is the ingredient in cannabis that makes you high.

Each company plans to invest up to $50 million in the venture, which is limited to Canada, where recreational cannabis became legal two months ago. The brewer will participate in the partnership via its Canadian subsidiary, Labatt Breweries. Tilray will use its High Park subsidiary, which develops, sells, and distributes cannabis brands in Canada.

“We intend to develop a deeper understanding of non-alcohol beverages containing THC and CBD that will guide future decisions about potential commercial opportunities,” Kyle Norrington, president of Labatt Breweries, stated in a press release. “We look forward to learning more about these beverages and this category in the months ahead.”

T-Mobile is scrapping plan to offer TV service this year

T-Mobile US Inc. is delaying the debut of its much-anticipated video service after the project proved more complex than expected, according to people familiar with the situation.

The move would push back the rollout until 2019, though plans could still change, according to the people, who asked not to be identified because the situation is private. Chief Executive Officer John Legere had promised to deliver a “disruptive TV service” — something that would upend the television industry — and that high bar has made it harder to get the project done on time.

T-Mobile executives faced the difficult choice of either offering a garden-variety streaming platform — a service that lets customers watch cable channels and other content online — or waiting until next year to deliver a more groundbreaking product, the people said.
