Disney names top Fox executives to lead combined TV businesses

Walt Disney Co. named senior Fox executive Peter Rice as co-chairman of its television business once the entertainment giant completes the $71 billion purchase of entertainment assets from 21st Century Fox.

Another Fox executive, Dana Walden, will become chairman of the Disney Television Studios and ABC Entertainment, according to a statement Monday. Ben Sherwood, the current co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of the Disney-ABC television group, will remain in his role through the transition.

The appointments, while expected, fill key roles at Burbank, California-Disney as it digests Fox entertainment assets including the company’s TV and movie studios and cable networks such as FX and Nat Geo. In March, Disney named James Pitaro co-chairman of media networks and president of ESPN. He and Rice report to Bob Iger, Disney’s chief executive officer.

'We gave this review everything we had': GTB reacts to Ford decision in internal memo

WPP may have avoided losing the Ford Motor Co. account altogether, yet the automaker’s choice of BBDO as lead creative agency is a financial and psychological blow to WPP and its dedicated Global Team Blue unit. While WPP retains significant business from Ford, the move marks a seismic shift for a holding company whose agencies have had ties to the automaker since 1943.

In an internal memo to employees sent today from Satish Korde, CEO of WPP’s Global Team Blue, obtained by Ad Age, the agency reacted with disappointment to the decision and tried to reassure staff.

Google falls after report it covered up potential security flaw

Alphabet fell to its lowest since July after the Wall Street Journal reported the internet giant decided not to disclose a “software glitch” at its Google+ social network that could have exposed the personal data of “hundreds of thousands” of users.

Google chose not to disclose the flaw this past spring out of concern it would trigger regulatory backlash, especially in the wake of criticism against Facebook Inc. for its privacy issues, the newspaper reported. Google plans to shut down its social network and announce new privacy measures in response to the incident, the paper said. The flaw exposed user data from 2015 until this past March, according to the report.

In a blog post, Google vice president of engineering Ben Smith confirmed the company had found a “bug” that affected as many as 500,000 users. The company found no evidence the information was misused by any developers, Smith said. A spokeswoman for Google didn’t immediately return a request for further comment.
