'Oh, for Fox sake!': Daily News nails the collective response to the Hannity revelation


Monday’s bombshell news about Sean Hannitysee “Fox News’ Hannity shares an embattled lawyer with the president he defends on TV”gets pitch-perfect tabloid treatment on the front page of this morning’s Daily News.

“OH, FOR FOX SAKE!” the New York paper’s headline screams, roughly approximating the collective response to the courtroom revelation.

Inside the paper, the cover story, with the milder headline “Fox News host Sean Hannity revealed as Michael Cohen’s mystery third client,” notes that all eyes are now on Hannity’s employer. Was Fox News aware of the secret that Hannity and his lawyer desperately wanted to keep under wraps?

Tracking tech to shorten Lollapalooza loo lines?


Going to Lollapalooza this August? Organizers may be able to tell whether you passed over the Arctic Monkeys for Space Jesus, how many Lime-A-Ritas you bought and how long you had to wait to buy them.

That’s because companies like Live Nation, which runs Lollapalooza as well as fests such as Austin City Limits and the Governors Ball, and AEG Presents, which puts on Coachella, Stagecoach and Panorama, are using anonymized data collected at festivals to calculate how to improve the experience (e.g., tame bathroom lines), as well as to target ticket offers, connect brands to consumers, in real time or in the future, and more.

Live Nation does some of this via RFID bracelets, which are required for registration as they act as tickets and enable customers to pay for drinks, food and merchandise. (AEG uses these too.) If you tap the bracelet while registering or inside an activation, you opt in to share information. The company’s head of digital and publishing, Jeremy Levine, says it’s “always iterating” on the best consumer setup based on the info.

Digital print ads get cheaper and easier (very slowly)


To highlight new ambient lighting in its forthcoming 2017 models, Lexus once asked for print ads that would evoke the feature by lighting up themselves.

“Of course, they came to us wanting a million units two months from the day that print would ship, and that wasn’t possible because there’s a lot of integration issues with design,” says Michael Helander, president and CEO at OTI Lumionics, the Toronto-based OLED tech company that Lexus asked to execute the stunt.

Fast-forward to today, and Helander says he could have met the deadline.

Music to your taste buds


Charles Alexander frequently dines at Etch restaurant in Nashville. And while he’s in the music industry, that’s not why he wore headphones there for dinner one night. Alexander was one of dozens of people who attended a “Sounds Delicious” dinner, where each course was paired with specific music.

“Even I was surprised at how much of an impact it had on improving taste,” says Alexander, a bioinformaticist by training, who now runs a music label services company in Nashville called Systemic. “Most of the food was very flavorful. And whether that was objectively true or because of the music we heard, I’m not 100 percent sure. It enhanced my dining experience, for sure.”

Each patron got a “sonic” doggie bag to take home: a URL to download a four-song album created by a “sonic chef” while they were having dinner.
