Around Mother’s Day in the Middle East, McDonald’s in Lebanon is celebrating the feeling of being a mum by focusing on a segment that exists in the region, but is never discussed.

In a region that tends to stick to gender norms, the film has sparked conversations around the definition of being a mum, and has earned over 85% positive sentiments. The film is being supported by on-ground retail activations and an upcoming social media content series focused on the core idea of ‘being a mum’ and all that it entails.

It doesn’t seem so long ago that a lot of publications would compete for readers by publishing hagiographical stories about the world-changing visionaires at social media companies, including Facebook.

Particularly in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, we may still think that Facebook is world-changing, but now we know its visionaries, from CEO Mark Zuckerberg on down, were wearing blinders. And so the media tide has turned. Dramatically.

Cases in point: Two of the world’s leading business-focused magazines, The Economist and Bloomberg Businessweek, have both published anti-Facebook cover stories at approximately the same time (the former with its issue dated March 24-30 and the latter with its issue dated March 26).

Facebook, Amazon reveal gender pay gap of U.K. workforces


Facebook pays female staff in Britain just 0.8 percent less on average than male employees, but womens’ bonuses are almost 40 percent lower.

The mean average disparity in pay is worse at Google’s U.K. arm, where women are paid on average 17 percent less than men. Google’s average bonus for female staff is 43 percent lower than male staff.

All companies with more than 250 U.K. employees have to disclose their gender pay gaps by April 4.
