Iranian Tied to Military Charged in `Game of Thrones' Hack

An Iranian man with alleged ties to the country’s military was charged with hacking into HBO’s computer servers, stealing scripts to unreleased ” Game of Thrones” episodes and trying to extort $6 million from the cable network.

Prosecutors claim Behzad Mesri, who isn’t in custody, is a member of an Iran-based group of hackers called the Turk Black Hat Security team and was known online as “Skote Vahshat.” He previously worked for the Iranian military to conduct computer attacks against military systems, nuclear software systems and Israeli infrastructure, according to the indictment.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan charged Mesri with seven criminal counts including computer fraud. U.S. prosecutors have scheduled a midday news conference to detail the charges. A copy of his indictment, returned by a grand jury Nov. 7, was unsealed Tuesday.

AT&T, Comcast Win as Trump's FCC Urges Repeal of Net Neutrality Rules

U.S. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai on Tuesday proposed vacating Obama-era net neutrality rules, handing a victory to broadband providers such as AT&T Inc. and Comcast Corp. that oppose the regulations.

“I look forward to returning to the light-touch, market-based framework that unleashed the digital revolution and benefited consumers here and around the world,” Pai said in an emailed news release. Pai said he had presented his proposal to fellow FCC commissioners, and set a vote on it for Dec. 14.

Silicon Valley firms and other supporters of the rules adopted in 2015 by a Democratic-led FCC say they are needed to keep network owners from favoring their own content and discouraging web startups. Critics say the rules discourage investment while exposing companies to a threat of heavier regulation including pricing mandates.

Dish Customers Lose CBS, Thanksgiving Football in Fee Dispute

Dish Network Corp. subscribers face a Thanksgiving weekend without CBS shows including football matchups like the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys versus Los Angeles Chargers after the network’s programming was pulled from the service over a fee dispute.

At midnight Monday, CBS and local stations in 18 cities were discontinued, according to the companies. CBS called the move another example of Dish punishing customers instead of negotiating a new contract. Dish said it is “regrettable and unnecessary that CBS is bringing its greed in to the homes of millions of families this Thanksgiving.”

Blackouts and the threat of blackouts have increased as media companies and pay-TV providers get squeezed by new players and tussle over monthly subscriber revenue. Dish has lost 468,000 TV subscribers this year as people switch to streaming options like Netflix. CBS has fared better, with revenue up 1.3 percent as fees from viewers and deals to license programs have more than countered falling audience ratings and ad sales.

BMW: The BMW Art of Energy

BMW China gives every runner in the Shanghai marathon a personalized art piece by using their individual running data to celebrate their achievement, encouraging them to “LET THE WORLD SEE OUR ENERGY.”

In China, BMW is not only one of the most beloved car companies but also has profound history with running. Thanks to BMW, if you run the Shanghai marathon this year you will get a personalized 3D art piece after finishing the race.

Partnering with China’s most popular running apps such as CoDoon, JoyRun and Rejoice, BMW dove deep into runners data regarding speed, pace, distance and total calories burned. Then in collaboration with world class visual data artist Joshua Davis, BMW visualized their running data in a beautiful 3D way with codes, colors and shapes. For example cylindrical shapes represent the runner’s pace – the taller the cylinders the faster your pace. Color represents speed: red is slow, blue is medium and green is fast. By interacting and rotating their personalized art, runners can discover even more data from different angles.
