Strong Finish for GOP Convention as Trump Speech Draws 30.8 Million Viewers
Posted in: UncategorizedDonald Trump on Thursday night capped the weirdest, wildest political convention in recent memory with a hot-blooded, 80-minute Cormac McCarthy novel of a speech that, despite extending well beyond the bounds of primetime on the East Coast, helped draw the biggest ratings of the past four days.
According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, Mr. Trump’s address to Republican delegates averaged 30.8 million viewers, of whom 9.95 million were members of the core news demo. That translates to an 8.4 rating among adults 25-to-54, and marks a 45% improvement when compared with the 6.92 million members of the demo who tuned in for the final night of the 2012 RNC.
While Mr. Trump’s speech was a far bigger draw than Mitt Romney’s, the real estate mogul’s deliveries were eclipsed by those of Sen. John McCain. The final night of the 2008 GOP convention scared up 36.5 million viewers across the six networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC) and drew a robust 16.1 million adults 25 to 54, good for a 13.6 in the dollar demo.

Starbucks Revenue Misses Estimates as U.S. Growth Slows
Posted in: UncategorizedStarbucks, the world’s largest coffee-shop chain, reported third-quarter revenue that missed analysts’ estimates after same-store sales growth slowed in the Americas, its biggest region.
Sales rose 7.3% to $5.24 billion in the quarter ended June 26, the Seattle-based company said in a statement on Thursday. That trailed analysts’ $5.34 billion average estimate. Same-store sales climbed 4% in the Americas, decelerating from a 7% increase in the prior quarter. Analysts projected a 6.1% gain for the third quarter, according to Consensus Metrix.
While Starbucks has been adding locations and advertising new items, the chain is grappling with U.S. consumers who have been reluctant to spend. The University of Michigan’s preliminary sentiment index fell to a three-month low in July as the U.K.’s vote to leave the European Union flustered higher-income earners. Starbucks also revamped its domestic rewards program earlier this year, which confused some customers and may have driven them to other restaurants.
Watch Lee Clow Get a Tattoo to Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Media Arts Lab
Posted in: UncategorizedTBWAMedia Arts Lab recently celebrated 10 years of working to promote the company famously founded by the Steves Jobs and Wozniak in a California garage four decades ago.
The sometimes-shy entity formerly known as MAL is growing more open in a shift that some attribute to Apple’s hiring of former Grey global CCO Tor Myhren last year.
Lee Clow used this occasion to leave a permanent reminder of the partnership on his own body in the form of a tattoo depicting a re-imagined version of Media Arts Lab’s signature bear silhouette logo.
This afternoon, TBWA released a video depicting that event. It also includes a fair amount of footage of the tattoo artist.
As Clow put it succinctly on Instagram, “dedication.” Also: #newbear. #malforever.
