Multiplex Dollars Help TV Battle Summertime Blues


As blockbuster season winds down, TV networks are hoping that the handful of remaining big-budget summer movies will help lift their third-quarter sales numbers.

While most of the summer’s most popular films have stopped advertising altogether, a few movies of more recent vintage continue to pour promotional dollars into TV. Chief among these is Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation” which, since rolling out its first spot on March 22, has accounted for $36.3 million in TV spend.

According to iSpot.tv data, the latest installment in the “Mission Impossible” franchise is now the summer’s fourth biggest investor in TV time, trailing only Warner Bros.’ “Mad Max: Fury Road” ($41.9 million), “Entourage” ($40.4 million) and “San Andreas” ($39.4 million).

The 2016 Summer Olympics are still a year away, but NBC Universal is already ramping up its marketing efforts for the games.

To celebrate the one-year mark leading up to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which will kick off on Aug. 5, 2016, NBCU is unveiling a swath of promotions across its TV networks and websites.

“This will be the most extensive one-year-out marketing effort ever for an Olympic Games,” said John Miller, chief marketing officer, NBC Sports Group and chair, NBC Universal Marketing Council.

More Changes at Publicis PR Agency Network MSLGroup as NA President Exits


Paul Newman, North American president of Publicis Groupe PR agency network MSLGroup, has stepped down, the company said.

The move comes a year and a half after Mr. Newman joined the company from his communications post at Ebay, and only a month since holding company Publicis moved MSLGroup under the purview of Arthur Sadoun, global CEO of creative agency Publicis Worldwide.

“In order to be closer to his family that is based in Boston, Paul Newman, president of North America, has decided to leave the company,” said Olivier Fleurot, global CEO of the PR network, in an email to employees. “His last day is today, August 3. [MSL CFO] Peter Miller will serve as interim president until a new leadership plan is announced for North America.”
