Deep Focus Sets Sights On Branded Entertainment With DFx

Deep Focus is launching a new branded-entertainment group called DFx in response to marketers asking for an advertising format that consumers don’t want to avoid.

The agency has inked arrangements with 11 media companies, including Tastemade, Popsugar and NowThis News, to create, produce and help distribute branded content that could be anything from a reality TV series to a branded video clip, said Deep Focus CEO Ian Schafer.

He said the goal is to co-create with the media properties and move away from the approach in which a marketer or agency person comes up with an idea for branded content and then sends a request for proposals to a number of production and media properties to create and distribute the content.

Hillary Clinton Pushes Branded Back-to-School Gear

College students are a key demographic for Ms. Clinton who recently announced a plan to help families pay for college and reduce interest rates for existing student loans.

Other presidential hopefuls, including Republican candidates Rand Paul and Donald Trump, are also using e-commerce to generate buzz among young people. Mr. Paul’s campaign store, which has a section devoted to anti-Hillary items like a $99.95 erased email server dubbed “Hillary’s Hard Drive”, stocks a bag toss game, an NSA spy cam blocker and t-shirts designed by contest winners, including one with Mr. Paul’s face that reads “Liberty Bro.” The online shop also sells cell phone cases and skins for MacBooks and Beats headphones, among dozens of other products.

Branded merchandise from Mr. Trump’s campaign includes a branded $20 pack of plastic red 16. oz cups — perfect for beer pong — pom poms, drink coozies and megaphones.

China's Herborist Aims to Be a Global Natural Skin-Care Brand

As head of marketing for China’s only premium cosmetic brand with international ambitions, balancing the diverse needs of Chinese and western consumers is a tricky task for Subrina Liu, but one she has dreamed of for years. Herborist plans to expand into North America next year, when Ms. Liu will probably move to the U.S. to spearhead that launch.

Starting with that overseas market back in 2008 was a smart move for Jahwa. France has strong cultural ties to Asia, including China, and its approval standards for beauty products are higher than most countries, including the U.S. Herborist is now available in other European markets, entering the U.K. this summer.

“France is famous for its skin care. If we are accepted there, it’s easier to be accepted globally,” said Ms. Liu, who is one of Ad Age’s 2015 Women to Watch China honorees.

Category: Career Oxygen
Summary: As a professional in an ever-evolving world of technology, it is absolutely important to keep abreast of changes that occur within the standard operations of society and hiring processes. Not many realize that with the evolution of information systems, most hiring processes are initiated, if not fully executed, online. Therefore, hiring managers and executive decision makers are eliminating the number of resumes that they are scouring each week in order to streamline processes and maximize productivity in the job space while keeping staffing down to a minimum. Let’s take a deeper look into this science and discover how to get past all systems filters to at least be considered for the position that many are applying for.

Marketing Yourself Using Your Resume: Part 2

Category: Career Oxygen
Summary: In physical hiring processes, a hiring manager is apt to start at the expertise section, scan through previous employers, read your full education level, and then check out the rest of the resume. Sometimes, they go directly to education, skipping experience altogether, and continue to your affiliations and technical proficiencies.
