Posted in: UncategorizedUNDER THE INFLUEN$E documentary sneak preview from UNDERtheINFLUEN$E on Vimeo. Under the guise of democracy, huge global corporations have purchased our politicians and are writing laws that poison our planet and dismantle our democratic process. Corporations have usurped democracy by using their vast wealth to influence politics and silence the citizen voice in government. All natural living systems are in rapid decline, pushing the human race ever closer to extinction. Despite enacted environmental protections, global corporations have recklessly abused the four natural resources that we rely on for life (air, soil, fresh water and oceans) as an open sewer for their toxic wastes with blatant disregard for humankind. Neither the environmental crisis nor the many other social and economic crises we face can be addressed until democracy is restored and this cycle of corruption is broken by corporate money being removed from politics. UNDER THE INFLUEN$E focuses on what can and is being done by conscious and committed citizens, movements and businesses to reverse the ecological destruction and take back democracy.

Posted in: UncategorizedThree Numbers to Watch When Apple Reports Earnings
Posted in: UncategorizedThere’s a lot to live up to when Apple releases earnings results after the market close today: Driven by iPhone sales, it’s beaten analysts’ estimates for profit in eight straight quarters and for revenue in seven of those.
The anticipation is building this time as well: The profit projection has climbed about 2.5% in the past four weeks as analysts at Pacific Crest Securities, Mizhuo Securities, UBS AG and others foresee strong sales for the smartphone.
Apple may report profit of $1.81 a share on revenue of $49.4 billion, based on the average of analysts’ estimates compiled by Bloomberg. To get there, here are some of the key milestones the company needs to hit, based on the projections:
Verizon in Q2 Adds 9,000 'Skinny Bundle' Subs
Posted in: UncategorizedDespite having its promotional messages blacked out in a number of key markets, Verizon in the second quarter managed to sign up 9,000 new customers for its new “skinny bundle” of cable network packages.
Speaking during the telco’s quarterly earnings call, Verizon Executive VP and CFO Fran Shammo told investors that Verizon’s FiOS TV service had added 26,000 new subs in the period spanning April 1 through June 30, of which “more than one-third” opted for one of its slimmed-down Custom TV packages.
Mr. Shammo said that while the initial demand for the Custom TV offering exceeded Verizon’s expectations, many are choosing the cheapest package available, opting for the basic skinny bundle and not adding any extra channels. “I will tell you, as far as the number of genres they take, it’s less than what we had anticipated,” he said, before adding that while that will “put pressure on the top line,” down the road it will “improve profitability from a programming perspective.”
Yahoo Got Brands to Buy More Ads at Higher Prices Than a Year Ago
Posted in: UncategorizedYahoo has been trying to draw a line in the sand between what its business has historically been and what it needs to be for advertisers to keep giving the company their money.
That line separates the old money Yahoo makes from desktop search ads and standard banners and the new money it’s starting to make from mobile, video, native and Tumblr ads, which the company kinda-confusingly groups into one revenue category called MaVeNS. And slowly but surely more of Yahoo’s business appears to be crossing that line, indicating that CEO Marissa Mayer’s turnaround strategy may be working.
The second quarter of 2015 marked the first time since Ms. Mayer took over as Yahoo CEO in July 2012 that the company was able to get brands to buy more search and display ads and, on average, pay more for both of those ad formats than they did a year ago.

But hell, the underlying tone of this spot is so surprisingly dark, they could have gone with Pink Floyd instead of Supertramp. Another Brick In The Wall, part 2, anyone?
Thank god there’s HP, tho! Oh, and offspring we can live vicariously through. Let’s be honest, the daughter was how she got the spark back, anyway.
