SI's Swimsuit Issue Finally Includes a Plus-Size Model, at Least in Its Advertising

This year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue will make history by featuring a plus-size model—in its advertising, anyway.

The gorgeous model, Ashley Graham, will not be posing in the editorial content next to the Chrissy Teigens and Kate Uptons of the world but in an ad by Swimsuits For All—an online retailer for women sizes 8 through 34.

“I know my curves are sexy, and I want everyone else to know that theirs are too,” Graham says in a statement. “There is no reason to hide and every reason to flaunt. The world is ready for more curves in bikinis. Swimsuits For All helps women feel confident and sexy in swimsuits, and I am so thrilled to be a part of the #CurvesinBikinis campaign!”

For those who think she has no place being in Sports Illustrated (“With America’s obesity issues, promoting this is dangerous” reads one comment on Facebook), the size-16 model has also launched a workout video series called The Curvy Fit Club with Net-a-porter.

The Swimsuits For All was made by KraftWorks in New York, which is run by Neil Kraft, the former Calvin Klein creative director who made Marky Mark and his Calvins famous. The photograher is the famed Russell James.

This is reportedly the first time ever that a plus-size model will be seen in Sports Illustrated—much less the Swimsuit Issue—and it took buying power to get her there.

IPG Announces New Board Directors Following Elliott Management Investment

Interpublic Group has announced it will appoint three new independent directors to its board in what appears to be a win for activist investor and IPG shareholder Elliott Management.

The new directors include: Deborah Ellinger, former CEO of The Princeton Review; Henry Miller, chairman of Marblegate Asset Management; and Jonathan Miller, partner at Advancit Capital, former chief digital officer of News Corporation and former CEO of AOL. They will replace two current directors, Jill Considine and Richard Goldstein, who will step down March 1.

The move ups the number of directors from nine to 10. The 10 directors will be the company’s nominees for election at its 2015 annual shareholder meeting. The board has also established a Finance Committee, effective March 1, “to assist the board in reviewing and analyzing financial matters and operations, including a focus on furthering our progress toward achieving the company’s target of fully competitive margins,” according to the announcement.

Vine Kids promete conteúdo e interatividade apropriados para as crianças

VineKids

“As crianças amam o Vine.

Wikipedia: the perpetual motion native ad machine

Native advertising has been all the rage for some time now, with publications like Buzzfeed touring ad agencies to convince them to hand the creative reigns over to their “viral making” millennials who spend all day poisoning the well with borrowed images & listicles.

Glowing Creatures in Black Water

Exagerado? Claro. Fanfarrão? Sem dúvida nenhuma. Mas a diversão toda está justamente aí.

Ace Hardware Begins Creative Agency Review

Ace Hardware is in the early stages of a procurement-led search for a creative agency and is reaching out to shops, according to people familiar with the matter.

Omnicom’s GSD&M has been the hardware company’s lead agency since it won the account in May 2009. It’s not clear whether GSD&M will participate in the review; the agency declined to comment. Ace Hardware could not immediately be reached for comment.

Ace has recently put an emphasis on the paint category. Interpublic’s FCB worked on the rollout of Ace’s new paint department, an effort between Ace and Valspar, with a May campaign called “Helpful is beautiful.” Valspar is an FCB client.

In-App Advertising Opportunities Poised to Grow

Mobile users prefer free, ad-supported apps, and that’s creating more in-app advertising opportunities.

Despite a growing number of app users, the number of U.S. mobile users willing to pay for apps will actually decline in the next four years. About 80 million people will pay for mobile apps at least once this year, according to a new forecast from eMarketer. That represents about one-third of all mobile users.

Yet these gloomy numbers might not be bad news for marketers. Nearly 93% of smartphone users and more than 90% of tablet users will download and install apps, according to eMarketer, signaling more in-app advertising opportunities.

Healthcare.gov and State Sites Still Crawling With Ad Trackers

People visiting Healthcare.gov, Colorado’s ConnectForHealthCO, California’s CoveredCA or NYStateofHealth lately might get more than information on health insurance plans: they might get ads on Facebook or just about anywhere else they’re traveling online, based on the fact that they visited the health sites.

In the wake of an Associated Press report revealing that the federal government’s Healthcare.gov site was exposing personal user data, that site along with 16 state healthcare sites still have lots of ad trackers installed from companies including Facebook, Twitter and Google’s Doubleclick.

During the week of Jan. 24 through Jan. 29, the federal healthcare site had 25 tracking technologies embedded, according to Ghostery, which evaluates the amount of tracking technologies on sites and can show where that information flows in real-time. That period follows reports that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said it had enhanced site encryption and limited the amount of information flowing to third-party technologies used for site analytics and advertising.
