Panasonic has appointed Simon Parkinson as its new marketing director for the UK and Ireland to replace incumbent Keisuke Nishida, who has returned to Japan.
Before its massive security breach late last year, Target had been working on a campaign to highlight its efforts to be a model corporate citizen, using the theme “Around for Good.” Once hackers had captured millions of its customers’ credit card numbers, Target CMO Jeff Jones decided to temporarily shelve the effort, saying that despite testing well with consumers, it still felt “tone deaf.”
Now Target will try again. “Fast forward a few months later, and we continue to monitor the data, and data is showing all the right signs of improvement,” Mr. Jones said. “The guest is sharing with us that they’re, frankly, tired of hearing about the breach in the media all the time, and they’re ready to move. That and our own intuition, we believe the time is right.”
So the retailer, which originally planned to break the work during the Olympics on NBC, instead plans to begin the the campaign on TV Sunday during ABC’s “Billboard Music Awards.” Four spots, three in English and one in Spanish, will run through June, in an effort to capitalize on spring sweeps. In addition to TV ads, the campaign includes cinema advertising and digital videos.
The professional comics were out, but so were network executives and actors who tried out their own bits.

Target has been mired in bad publicity for months.
It began with the massive security breach that impacted millions of shoppers just in time for holiday shopping. But with the aftereffects still lingering this month, CEO Gregg Steinhafel stepped down, and Gawker published an anonymous rant by someone described as a mid-level employee that detailed the company’s “passive aggressive” culture. The author called for a “serious change in their leadership and culture,” suggesting every top executive except CMO Jeff Jones should be shown the door.
“They expect you to conform to them, to be ‘Targetized’ and drink the Koolaid,” the Gawker post read in part. “If you aren’t super bubbly, super social and passive aggressive, you get told that you’re a problem. Being direct, wanting to actually get your work done, asking questions and pushing back are all viewed as bad things and you’ll be told to tone it down or you’ll be pushed out.”
