So, How’s Enfatico Handling WPP’s Hiring Freeze?

mr-freeze.gif

From the moment we heard about WPP’s hiring freeze, we wondered what would come of the little shop that could, Enfatico, down in Austin. The problem is pretty simple: how can you build an agency when hiring people isn’t allowed?

So contact Enfatico we did, and here’s what we found out. Per spokesperson:

“As you have noted, there is a WPP-mandated hiring freeze. Enfatico is working hand-in-hand with WPP to secure approval for critical hires and expects to announce in the coming weeks a few additions to our team.”

So, Enfatico is exempt, and still staffing up. But at this point, aren’t all their hires, “critical”? A recent report published in the Austin Business Journal indicates the agency has, “the bulk of hiring behind it”.

Per Gretchen Miller, svp pr:

“Given the recent economic events, WPP and many other companies are being judicious when it comes to bringing on new staff. Enfatico is still hiring for key positions as we continue to build our capabilities to serve Dell.”

McDonald’s Gives Packaging a Flashy Update

CHICAGO (AdAge.com) — McDonald's is scrapping its package design across 118 countries and 56 languages in what Global Chief Marketing Officer Mary Dillon called the "biggest packaging initiative in the history of the brand." The new look puts more emphasis on product and less on the brand's iconic "I'm lovin' it" tagline.

Latest Microsoft Spot Even More Real Than First

Above is the latest spot that could lift the beaten spirits of Microsoft share-holders who worry their brand is getting taken for a ride by Apple. It is, and we’re sure Apple will have a response before too long, but in the meantime take a look.

The first round of “I’m a PC” didn’t fall completely flat on its face, and was even met with some acclaim. This iteration takes the idea a step further, and strings together a series of user-generated clips that “PCs” uploaded to windows dot com. The rule: say, “I’m a PC”, and give a reason why, in five seconds. Here’s ours, “I’m a PC, and I use a Mac”.

What’s yours? Tell us, below.

Feeling Good, Louis!

AdWeek reported today that WPP and Google are spending $4.6 million over the next three years to fund research “that will prove the effectiveness of online marketing in changing customer behavior,” and apparently, we’re the only ones who seem mildly alarmed by this statement.

They don’t even try to make it sound like the “academic research” they’re funding is valid. They’re buying the research they need, and we’re calling bull, once and for all.

We can’t wait to see the research results and have no idea as to what they’ll find. Keep your eyes peeled!

In speaking to a colleague about this issue, it was brought to my attention that I may be harping righteously to no avail. Nay, sir, nay. More after the jump.
