Oscar allows Movies on Ads

In a new move that has become a welcome sight to most promoters, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts have allowed commercials to be aired during the Oscar telecast, something that has been not allowed before.

The main reason for not allowing advertisers to sink in before was to avoid controversies such as possibly influencing the outcome of the awards. But all of that is past and the next Oscars will have something similar to new ads unveiled as the Super Bowl.

There are some provisions to consider though:

Each distributor will be permitted one spot each. Only one spot, whether 30- or 60-second, will be allowed during each commercial break. And each spot can promote only one film and not do double-duty by hyping several titles

Airlines Becoming Desperate for Revenue

Owe it all to the credit crunch we are experiencing. Apparently, more companies today are devising ways to find out how to rack in added revenue which do not necessarily have to come from clients. Advertisers and sponsors have been allowed to set in and leading the pack of welcoming companies are the airlines.

Airlines are a moving ad vehicle since the volume of travelers are quite manageable. So while most of these travelers are just concerned on getting to places safe and sound, the setting is perfect for other companies seeking advertising positioning and exposure to likewise generate added awareness for their businesses.

Avon Gets Wrinkled

The catch phrase or taglines that most advertisers used are normally the ones that get the job done and for Avon, their claim of removing wrinkles through their product, Much Anew, has been ordered to withdraw its claims since they lack sufficient proof that it can really fade away wrinkles.

The television campaign has boasted that it can do away the wrinkles, normally coming from aging, and apparently it is close to being categorized as false advertising for lack of proof thereof.

The expert said that ‘the actual change in the appearance of fine lines reported was very slight’. He said that other factors such as the weather may have had an effect.

The commercial had been vetted by the television advertising watchdog, Clearcast, which had also consulted a skin specialist.

Smoking Was Harmless Before

Today, we all know the adverse effects of smoking. In fact, it has been categorized as a health hazard. But did you know that there was a time that smoking was harmless?

This was apparently the case in the 1920’s to 50’s. There were no hidden statistics and issues on smoking and in fact you may be surprised at the people endorsing them back then…Doctors!

But as time changed we saw the transition. Today the very same people, doctors, are campaigning against it and are warning us of potential threats like cancer and complications. Funny how the tides have turned.
