Oscar allows Movies on Ads

In a new move that has become a welcome sight to most promoters, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts have allowed commercials to be aired during the Oscar telecast, something that has been not allowed before.

The main reason for not allowing advertisers to sink in before was to avoid controversies such as possibly influencing the outcome of the awards. But all of that is past and the next Oscars will have something similar to new ads unveiled as the Super Bowl.

There are some provisions to consider though:

Each distributor will be permitted one spot each. Only one spot, whether 30- or 60-second, will be allowed during each commercial break. And each spot can promote only one film and not do double-duty by hyping several titles
