Become a Teletubby with the video vest

WearablevideoWearable Video Vest Launched.” Such a statement must surely portend the arrival of the Biblical “end times.” Nothing in the press release disabused me of that belief. It begins: “Video Vest provides progressive marketing professionals a technology to WEAR clothing that plays full motion video with stereo sound any place they want to capture attention.” If you wear a TV in public, yes, you’ll probably get a few looks from passersby. (And why the all-caps on “WEAR”? Come to think of it, why emphasize that the vest is “wearable” at all? If you can’t wear it, it’s not much of a vest, whatever its other bells and whistles.) The missive continues: “Companies such as Comcast, Seminole Hardrock, Westgate Resorts, Corning Data, Golden Palace and other clientele rent or lease Video Vests for use at tradeshows or for street campaigns.” I must remember never to seek employment at those firms. Finally: “The company is currently developing new technologies and product lines to expand the Wearable Video concept.” Video hats? Video pants? I’m taping iPhones to my chinos to get ahead of the curve.

Crotchety paper has no love for vagina ad

Vaginaheart
First there were the River City Vagina Bagels of Ought-Seven. Now, just in time for V-Day, The Vagina Monologues has sparked another intriguing ad, one that’s apparently got the Seattle Times’s granny panties in a bunch. The ad was created by the National Council of Jewish Women’s Seattle office, which is co-sponsoring performances of Eve Ensler’s episodic play aimed at empowering women. But the Seattle Times reportedly refused to run the ad unless the vagina-heart artwork was altered — which the sponsors declined to do. As Rabbi Yohanna Kinberg points out in the Seattle Weekly’s coverage, the ad has been hanging as a poster in several area synagogues. I don’t want to tell the Seattle Times how to do its job, but when your ad policy is stricter than a house of worship’s, it might be time for a reality check. Via Romenesko.

MySpace Launches Games Section

MySpace did launch its own game portal after all (told you so). Unlike, say, Kongregate or Yahoo Games, MySpace lets users to embed games elsewhere (your MySpace profile or a blog; see Line Rider below it turns out, you can embed the game, but it’s not playable outside the MySpace domain, so profiles only). The game I played was preceded by a pre-roll, but we will probably see advergames there pretty soon.

And Valleywag believes Electronic Arts is eyeing the social games space, too: “Former EA Los Angeles general manager Neil Young is in charge of a “stealth division” believed to be EA Blueprint, which will develop and publish games to social networks.”
