Just days later, the government switched to soft power by hosting the first World Media Summit. That the venue for the event, which featured big guns such as Rupert Murdoch and the AP's Tom Curley, was held here is bizarre, as censors working for the Communist Party maintain rigid control over what Chinese can say, read and write.
