The latest children’s book about hunting

Billy This arrived in my inbox today: “Children’s book about hunting endorsed by Mark Kayser and Ted Nugent.” This is wrong on so many levels. First off, it’s unfair to lump in the Motor City Madman, who plays some kick-ass guitar on “Wango Tango,” with Mark Whoever, who never played guitar on anything, as far as I can tell from Wikipedia. The release, from author Matthew Butler, continues: “I have recently written a book called Billy Goes Hunting. … It seems that so many people associate hunting with cruelty or unfairness to animals.” Hunting would be fair if the animals also got guns, but surprisingly few hunters go for that sort of thing. Perhaps it’s considered cruel because one of the parties involved, the hunted, often winds up dead. Now, before I’m branded a bleeding-heart liberal, let me say that I’m no stranger to firearms (my dad was an Army instructor) and have no qualms about responsible citizens legally owning guns. But if elk or moose ever put in some time on the firing range, hunters everywhere better drop to their knees and prey—er, pray—they get their money’s worth on those camouflage outfits they bought at REI Sports.
