How are jaded, seen-it-all Manhattan commuters reacting today when videogame icon Mario hails cabs for them in midtown to promote the launch of the Mario Kart Wii racing game? Is anyone even noticing? The rides are free, so the masses probably won’t mind. Here in Boston, where marketing stunts leave us frightened and confused, such wacky antics would spark a citywide terrorism scare. Given the payout that local communities got following the Aqua Teen fiasco, maybe Nintendo should bring the promo to Boston. The lawyers will be waiting, so Mario better be ready to leave a pretty big tip.
