TBWA/MAL Chronicles Journey of Sound to Hype Apple’s Music Service

In the wake of keynote presentations and exaltation from the likes of Drake, Interscope/Beats man Jimmy Iovine and Trent Reznor (who provides VO on this product demo video) at its Worldwide Developers Conference this week, Apple unveiled this spot to further hype its newest product: a streaming music service.

Created by longtime agency partner TBWA/Media Arts Lab, the :60 film aptly titled “History of Sound” takes us on a 127-year journey beginning with the days of the gramophone and veering into the era of turntables, 8-track tapes and ultimately digital downloading. Thankfully, the Apple Music branding is merely an afterthought in this spot, which is buoyed by hypnotic percussion as it leads viewers through various moments in pop music history including everyone from hippies to punk-rockers to beatheads.

The “History of Sound” sound spot seems to echo earlier WWDC proclamations that Apple Music is something revolutionary, though critics were quick to bring up Spotify and even Tidal comparisons after the announcement. Regardless, Apple Music is launching on June 30 and it will run $9.99/month (or $14.99 for the family pack). You can get the full rundown of the service here or pretty much anywhere else on the internet.

Battery Invites You to ‘Be The Batman’

Los Angeles startup agency Battery followed up its nostalgia-inducing trailer for Mortal Kombat X with a spot promoting the June 23rd release of Batman: Arkham Knight.

Like the agency’s previous effort, “Be The Batman” mixes live action and in-game footage, beginning with (and leaning more heavily on) the former. Picturing citizens of Gotham in perilous situations, and set to an original score by Trent Reznor, the ad encourages viewers to be selfless, determined, courageous and feared — in short to “Be The Batman.” The spot transitions to in-game footage with the line — a nice touch — before giving viewers a glimpse of what the game actually looks like. It doesn’t provide more than a hint of what sets the game apart from its predecessors in the popular franchise, however (the quick shot of the playable Batmobile providing one such hint). “Be The Batman” appeared online last Thursday and will make its broadcast debut later this week. It will be supported by OOH elements, including a Times Square takeover, as well as “extensive digital placements.”

David Lynch assina “Came Back Haunted”

Com o passar dos anos as parcerias mais incríveis vão acontecendo, quase como uma consequencia inevitável da vida e da arte. David Lynch se juntou novamente a Trent Reznor, desta vez para dirigir o novo clipe “Came Back Haunted” do Nine Inch Nails.
