The UnConference and the UnAdvertising Direction We’re Headed


The One Show festival includes the Creative unConference, a two-day gathering of advertising professionals discussing and sharing things that are pertinent to our industry. It is as casual as it is rich in information. Some of the industry's sharpest minds gave their time to the rest of us. Some of them were still in school. That's the beauty of an unconference. Anyone can lead a session instead of the traditional lineup of topical experts anyone can name and scheduled one-hour session topics. I admit I was skeptical of the worth of such an approach. After all, shouldn't we be listening to our industry's biggest hotshots?

Na conferência da Microsoft na E3que ainda está rolando – todo mundo focou nas apresentações de games blockbusters e na completa demonstração do Kinect (ex-Project Natal). Porém, um outro anúncio merece nossa atenção: a parceria com a ESPN.

No ano passado, a Microsoft tinha anunciado Netflix, Last.fm, Facebook e Twitter na Xbox Live, e hoje revelou a transmissão de eventos esportivos ao vivo e em HD junto com a ESPN.

O serviço não é completamente gratuito, já que é preciso ser membro Gold da Xbox Live (50 dólares por ano). Ao assistir uma partida de futebol, por exemplo, é possível escolher que time você acha que vai ganhar e ainda responder trívias, tudo transformado em estatísticas em tempo real com a opinião dos espectadores.

Além de ser um poderoso trunfo para o já vasto conteúdo on demand do console da Microsoft, me parece um duro golpe para as operadoras de TV a cabo. Ainda é apenas um sinal do futuro, claro, mas que já deve impactar muitas decisões por aí.

E uma boa notícia para os brasileiros, é que finalmente a Xbox Live estará disponível oficialmente no Brasil a partir de setembro, assim como o Kinect.

Last week in the heart of Chelsea, in New York City, Joan Rivers got a standing ovation from her adoring gay and lesbian fans after the screening of a documentary about her life, "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work." The sold-out event at NewFest, New York's premiere LGBT film festival, attracted a well-educated, professional (and good-looking) crowd of New Yorkers, most of whom were gay, and all of whom are prime targets for many of today's brands from Heineken to American Express, and yet mainstream sponsors like these two (who, by the way, underwrote the Tribeca Film Festival in April) were nowhere to be found.

NME Radio retrenches as IPC closes live station

IPC Media has closed the live NME Radio station, launched under licence by Xfm founder Sammy Jacob’s DX Media, and replaced it with an online-only automated service.

The UK out-of-home media industry took revenues of £204m between January and March this year, up 14.6% when compared with the first three months of 2009, according to figures from the Outdoor Advertising Association.
