Mad Max – Dusty Car Wash – (2015) 2:00 (Canada)

To promote Mad Max: Fury Road a piece of downtown Toronto was transformed into a post-apocalyptic world – complete with scrap metal, pyrotechnics and of course, coloured smoke grenades. At the centre of all this chaos was The Dusty Car Wash. People were invited to bring in their vehicles and have them covered with dust, which became canvases for artists. These artists would then re-create imagery from the movie on each vehicle, including: skulls, flames, gears, movie quotes, title, release date and “What a lovely day”. Any car that drove through the dusty car wash was then a rolling Mad Max billboard until the next (real) carwash.

89FM #Unforgettableriffs (2015) 1:45 (Brazil)
Here’s a touching tribute to Malcolm Young, the AC/DC Guitarist who left the band due to the fact he is suffering from dementia. Agencia Africa and 89FM celebrated the love Australia’s greatest import through the words of people who are also suffering from the same disease as Malcolm. When they played them AC/DC, the memories may not have rushed back, but the healing power of music was clearly in full force. The final few supers sum it up: Although you might someday forget about the world, the world will never forget you, Malcom.
If that doesn’t bring a tear to your rock n roll eyes, I don’t know what will.

Universal Studios Hollywood – Supercharged – (2015) :30 (USA)

Universal Studios Hollywood - Supercharged - (2015) :30 (USA)
A Common Thread director Clay Staub turns a couple of amusement park visitors into Vin Diesel’s co-stars in a new spot introducing Universal Studios Hollywood’s new Fast and Furious – Supercharged ride.

Conceived by David&Goliath, Supercharged is a clever mash-up of scenes from the Fast and Furious films and simulated ride footage. The result makes it appear as though a pair of park patrons are riding along as Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson and other stars of the films square off in a street race. Engines roar, cars spin out, fire balls explode as the two park patrons hold on for dear life—loving every minute.

Staub pulled off the seamless mix by choreographing the ride simulation sequences to match the high octane bumps, twists and turns depicted in the film scenes. “We wanted to show that the ride delivers an experience that is more than watching a scene unfold around you—you are integrated into that scene and part of the action,” he says.

A ride vehicle was mounted to a gimbal programmed to mirror the action of each film clip. Elaborate lighting, wind machines and pyrotechnics were similarly used to replicate the movie environments. “It was a very integrated set,” Staub recalls. “Everything was programmed. The lights moved on a track and went on and off to enhance the sense of moving through the movie. The lights were colored to match the color temperature of the corresponding scenes. It came off without a hitch.”

Staub notes that the spot hinges on a misdirect. When the two park patrons are first revealed, it appears they are racing each other. Only later does it become clear that they are seated in the same tram car. “The Fast and Furious films are all about the attitude of the characters and that attitude carries over to the ride,” he explains. “The ride makes you feel like you are one of them and this is your chance to beat the people you admire from the movies.”

Activision - Guitar Hero Live Reveal Trailer (2015) 3:14 (USA)
Racking up well over two and a half million views on youtube in the first 24 hours, this peek at the New Guitar hero is whetting peoples appetite for playing the best game ever once again. You see, it starts out fairly simple. You’re backstage, you’re listening to your band mate tell an emotional rollercoaster story about twins, when the announcement is made that “you’re on”. Walking through the back stage area to the stage you’ll meet and greet all sorts of roadies, helpers, stage hands along the way – and a blond who says “Good Luck” which is something even a cgi-generated groupie should know you do not, ever, say backstage.

Once you’re on the stage, you suck, and the audience lets you know it. But then you find your groove and it goes all rock’n’roll from there. Here’s the wild part, what you watched wasn’t just an idea of the new Guitar Hero game… You just watched the actual game. Holy hell, that looks wild, that’s a really realistic crowd! And they’ll boo you when you suck! Oh this looks like fun, guys, is there an extra controller I need to buy to stage-dive, or will throwing my couch cushions on the floor do?
