Organic Appoints First-Ever CMO

tracyrichards1It’s kind of surprising, we suppose, that Organic has never had a chief marketing officer up to this point, but the Omnicom-owned agency has now filled the newly created role with the promotion of Tracy Richards, who works out of the New York office. The 13-year Organic vet most recently served as group director/global business development. Richards’ CMO appointment comes as part of a “restructuring” of Organic’s biz dev efforts that’s being led by the agency’s CEO, David Shulman.

Along with the Richards promotion, sources familiar with the matter tell us that Organic has also won Kohler, KC Professional (adding to the agency’s portfolio of KC brands), and another, yet-to-be disclosed new business win on the West Coast that the agency just won in “a competitive pitch” with Razorfish. We’ll keep you posted when we find out what the new biz actually is.

Organic Makes Creative Leadership Changes

organicccoWe’ve received confirmation that David Bryant, who joined Organic 15 months ago as chief creative officer Conor Brady, who left at the time for Huge, is no longer with the agency. Word is that Chris Kelly, ECD of Organic NY and Duane  Raupp, Detroit ECD, will take the lead on creative duties across network at the Omnicom-owned agency. Prior to Organic, Bryant served as ECD/digital at the likes of StrawberryFrog and Publicis. As for the new incoming creative leadership, Kelly spent the last 15 months as creative director at Wunderman prior to joining Organic as GCD while Raupp has had a few stints at the agency, last serving as VP/ECD out of its Detroit office.

Here’s a quick statement from Organic CEO, David Shulman: “Kelly and Raupp are exceptional digital creative leaders who both complement and collaborate naturally in their leadership of our clients and staff.  They drive spectacular work and impressive innovation, and both are recognized as outstanding mentors in developing talent. Together they are a powerful team to lead Organic creative.”

Organic Cuts 3%

To expand and clarify upon tipsters’ quotes from earlier this week, we’ve received confirmation from sources familiar with the matter say that the agency has cut approximately three percent of staff ACROSS network–not just in San Francisco–including a couple of creatives. From what we’ve been told, this is part of the Omnicom-owned agency’s CEO David Shulman‘s assessment of talent based on, you guessed it, client needs. But, on a positive note, our sources add that Organic is hiring, and if you recall, has brought on staffers including CSO Monik Sanghvi, appointed Audrey Melofchik as New York GM and of course, most recently, has welcomed Digitas alum Sarah Montague in the same latter role in San Francisco.

Organic Leadership Changes Continue, This Time in SF

It seems like Organic CEO David Shulman has been a busy man these days. Just weeks after bringing back Monik Sanghvi to serve as the Omnicom-owned agency’s chief strategy officer and appointing Audrey Melofchik as GM of its New York office, the CEO is now on the hunt for a new GM of Organic’s SF branch. Why? Well, because Alle Aufderhaar, who joined Organic in said role in 2010 after lengthy stints at the likes of Digitas, is leaving the agency to go client-side.

In the meantime, sources familiar with the matter tell us that while Shulman talks to candidates now–though, there’s no rush as “he wants to make the right choice”–CFO Tina Weber will be interim GM for San Fran and  chief client officer Joe DiMeglio will oversee portfolio of clients based out of San Francisco.
