BBDO, AT&T Want to Take Your Friends to the Movies

The New York and Atlanta offices of BBDO launched a new campaign for AT&T, introducing the network’s new Ticket Tuesdays offer, which allows AT&T customers to bring a friend to the movies for free on Tuesdays.

A series of comedic spots promote the new program, showing how the deal lets you bring along any type of friend.

Maybe it’s just that we find it the most relatable, but the approach works best in the down-to-earth “Married Friend.” In the ad, a chef calls up his married buddy and asks if he can join him at the movies on Tuesday, describing the Ticket Tuesdays deal. He asks his wife, who tells them they made plans to “sit on the couch together on Tuesday,” but then tells him to go anyway. The decision waffling then continues until the man eventually decides to go.

Two 15-second spots, “Sentimental Friend” and “Impulsive Friend” apply a similar approach to an overly-sentimental friend and a friend who impulsively decides to leave his hospital bed to go to the movies. In the 30-second “Boyfriend,” a college guy asks a girl to the movies, but she decides she’d rather borrow his phone and bring her boyfriend. It kind of feels like a scene that would  go down in a modern version of Undeclared. Each ad manages to fit in a description of the offer in a fairly convincing way while also getting to the point with its comic narrative, even if the humor doesn’t always land as intended.

The campaign arrives amidst a U.S. creative and media review, which AT&T launched last month. It launched today on AT&T’s social channels and will roll out soon on broadcast, pre-roll and, naturally, in cinemas. Digital and social components from BBDO and Organic will support the effort.

Organic Food Snobs Are Unknowingly Fed McDonald's, and They're Lovin' It

You probably have a few friends so opinionated about the sourcing and quality of their food, part of you wants to test whether they’d really know the difference between crap and cuisine.

You love those friends, but you also think they’re being snobs, and you’d just love to troll them hard.

Well now you don’t have to, because two guys named Sacha and Cedrique did it for you. As you can see in the video below, they’re on a mission to prank organic food experts in the Netherlands. They pack their bags full of a mix of McDonald’s food and real organic food and present it to these connoisseurs of the finer things in life.

Check out this hilarious culinary experiment and skip to about the 2-minute mark if you want to see the real golden nuggets.

Ogilvy Celebrates Coke Zero, Wins Kimberly-Clark Baby

Ogilvy

This morning we have an update and some breaking news regarding Ogilvy: the agency made its Coke Zero win official and won new business from client Kimberly-Clark.

On the Coke front, a source tells us that an internal memo regarding the win (which we broke last month) recently circulated around the agency’s offices. The source noted that this is the first major agency move made by top marketer Wendy Clark since she assumed leadership of Coca-Cola North America in May.

The following tweet from Ogilvy CMO Lauren Crampsie seems to confirm that the party started last week…

W+K Names Colleen DeCourcy as Partner

WK_ColleenDeCourcy2_300dpi

Wieden+Kennedy has named Colleen DeCourcy as the newest partner in its global network.

DeCourcy most recently served as Global Coexecutive Creative Director; she joins Dan Wieden, Dave Luhr, Mark Fitzloff, Susan Hoffman, Tom Blessington, Bill Davenport, John Jay, Neil Christie, Tony Davidson and Kim Papworth on the partner team.

DeCourcy worked at W+K for only eighteen months before the promotion; prior to joining the agency, she founded her own shop called Socialistic, which she ran as CEO and chief creative officer. The release states that, during her time at W+K, she has “extended the creative department’s capabilities beyond advertising, into both experience and product design.”

Her full ad industry resume includes stints in leadership positions at TBWA New York, JWT and Organic.

Organic Appoints First-Ever CMO

tracyrichards1It’s kind of surprising, we suppose, that Organic has never had a chief marketing officer up to this point, but the Omnicom-owned agency has now filled the newly created role with the promotion of Tracy Richards, who works out of the New York office. The 13-year Organic vet most recently served as group director/global business development. Richards’ CMO appointment comes as part of a “restructuring” of Organic’s biz dev efforts that’s being led by the agency’s CEO, David Shulman.

Along with the Richards promotion, sources familiar with the matter tell us that Organic has also won Kohler, KC Professional (adding to the agency’s portfolio of KC brands), and another, yet-to-be disclosed new business win on the West Coast that the agency just won in “a competitive pitch” with Razorfish. We’ll keep you posted when we find out what the new biz actually is.

Organic Makes Creative Leadership Changes

organicccoWe’ve received confirmation that David Bryant, who joined Organic 15 months ago as chief creative officer Conor Brady, who left at the time for Huge, is no longer with the agency. Word is that Chris Kelly, ECD of Organic NY and Duane  Raupp, Detroit ECD, will take the lead on creative duties across network at the Omnicom-owned agency. Prior to Organic, Bryant served as ECD/digital at the likes of StrawberryFrog and Publicis. As for the new incoming creative leadership, Kelly spent the last 15 months as creative director at Wunderman prior to joining Organic as GCD while Raupp has had a few stints at the agency, last serving as VP/ECD out of its Detroit office.

Here’s a quick statement from Organic CEO, David Shulman: “Kelly and Raupp are exceptional digital creative leaders who both complement and collaborate naturally in their leadership of our clients and staff.  They drive spectacular work and impressive innovation, and both are recognized as outstanding mentors in developing talent. Together they are a powerful team to lead Organic creative.”

Organic Makes Some Strategic Changes

organicSources familiar with the matter confirm that Organic has parted ways with both Anna Banks, VP/strategy and planning, VP/marketing intelligence, Tom Thomas. No word yet on if there are plans to replace, but from what sources tell us, Omnicom-owned Organic is in the process of “restructuring.” Prior to her five-year stint at Organic, Banks served as VP/digital strategy and innovation at Organic while Thomas has worked on the client side at the likes of Sprint and Oracle before his stint at the agency.

Organic Cuts 3%

To expand and clarify upon tipsters’ quotes from earlier this week, we’ve received confirmation from sources familiar with the matter say that the agency has cut approximately three percent of staff ACROSS network–not just in San Francisco–including a couple of creatives. From what we’ve been told, this is part of the Omnicom-owned agency’s CEO David Shulman‘s assessment of talent based on, you guessed it, client needs. But, on a positive note, our sources add that Organic is hiring, and if you recall, has brought on staffers including CSO Monik Sanghvi, appointed Audrey Melofchik as New York GM and of course, most recently, has welcomed Digitas alum Sarah Montague in the same latter role in San Francisco.

Organic SF Officially Welcomes Montague as New GM

It took a couple of weeks, but as per usual, our sources were spot-on as Organic has confirmed that Sarah Montague has taken over as SVP/general manager of its San Francisco office. Montague essentially replaces Alle Aufderhaar, who left for the client side a few months ago. The new Organic SF GM arrives from Digitas, where she spent the last two years as SVP/marketing, first in Chicago on Kraft and Kaiser Permanente before helping open the latter agency’s Bay Area branch, where she helped secure digital AOR duties for the likes of eBay and Taco Bell.

Now at Organic SF, Montague will not only oversee staff as is expected, but a client roster that includes Nike, Quaker and Nature’s Way. During her career, the exec also had a stint at SVP/group management director at Draftfcb, where she handled CRM/multi-channel efforts for VW.

Montague Taking Over as Organic SF MD?

Details are still hazy on this one, but word from sources in the know is that Sarah Montague, who’s spent the last two years serving as SVP, marketing at Digitas, is assuming the role of managing director at Organic San Francisco. The latter, Omnicom-owned agency is keeping schtum on the matter for now, but Montague’s impending arrival ends a two-month search for Organic SF, which has been without an MD/GM since Alle Aufderhaar decided to go client-side.

As for Montague, during her two years at Digitas, first in Chicago, then in San Francisco, the exec headed up marketing efforts for the agency’s Kraft and Kaiser Permanente accounts. Prior to Digitas, she spent 15 months as SVP/group management director at Draftfcb on CRM and multi-channel efforts for Volkswagen. We’ll fill in the details when we get them.

Healey Takes Over as GM at Organic Detroit

With eight-year agency vet Joe DiMeglio getting bumped up to EVP/chief client officer two months ago, Omnicom-owned agency Organic has looked within and found his successor in Katie Healey, who has spent the last two years as SVP/group account director at Team Detroit. Healey, who now takes over as SVP/general manager of Organic’s Detroit office, will oversee its Motor City-based accounts including Volkswagen, Kimberly-Clark and Hilton.

This move marks Healey’s second tour of duty at Organic, where she last served as something called “engagement manager” (or group director in layman’s speak). During her career, Healey has also served on the account side at the likes of Digitas Detroit and Campbell-Ewald.

Organic Leadership Changes Continue, This Time in SF

It seems like Organic CEO David Shulman has been a busy man these days. Just weeks after bringing back Monik Sanghvi to serve as the Omnicom-owned agency’s chief strategy officer and appointing Audrey Melofchik as GM of its New York office, the CEO is now on the hunt for a new GM of Organic’s SF branch. Why? Well, because Alle Aufderhaar, who joined Organic in said role in 2010 after lengthy stints at the likes of Digitas, is leaving the agency to go client-side.

In the meantime, sources familiar with the matter tell us that while Shulman talks to candidates now–though, there’s no rush as “he wants to make the right choice”–CFO Tina Weber will be interim GM for San Fran and  chief client officer Joe DiMeglio will oversee portfolio of clients based out of San Francisco.

Organic Hires CSO, Finds Replacement for McAllister in NY

Well, Organic’s answered our question from 10 days ago as the Omnicom agency has indeed found a replacement for Amy McAllister, who served as general manager of its New York office before splitting for JPMorgan Chase. Taking over for McAllister in NY is Audrey Melofchik, who’s been with Organic for nearly two years and most recently served as SVP/engagement management.

Along with Melofchik’s appointment, Organic has welcomed back Monik Sanghvi (pictured) to serve as its chief strategy officer. The Detroit-based exec originally worked at the agency over a decade ago as group director, strategic services before assuming senior-level positions at the likes of Digitas and Team Detroit. Staying in Detroit for a minute, Joe DiMeglio, who took over for James Heughens as SVP/general manager of Organic’s Motor City office nearly a year ago, has been promoted to chief client officer.
