JWT_150_Owl_Logo_Black

The week’s biggest spoiler to date has nothing to do with “Game of Thrones” or “Mad Men.”

Martin Sorrell of WPP dropped an extremely premature bomb during an “executive breakfast” hosted by the Wall Street Journal: JWT will once again become the J. Walter Thompson Company as part of its 150th anniversary “rebranding.”

Lindner Assumes Newly Created Role of McCann Worldgroup Prez

lucalindnerJust over a year after taking on an expanded position as president of McCann Worldgroup Americas, adding to his existing role as president of Latin America, Africa and Middle East, Luca Lindner has now been elevated to the role of McCann Worldgroup president, proper. The nine-year McCann vet, as you may know, most recently served in a co-president role at Worldgroup alongside, with each leading their respective regions. Of course, Martinez left McCann to take on the role of global president of JWT, with the plan being to succeed the latter’s chairman/CEO Bob Jeffrey in 2015.  As a result, Lindner has been promoted to the newly created global role, overseeing all McCann Worldgroup operations and reporting to CEO, Harris Diamond. From what we’ve been told, there are no plans to replace Lindner’s former position at the agency.

Lindner, wh0 kicked off his ad career at TBWA\Paris, spent a handful of years as vice chairman of Leo Burnett EMEA and president of its Fiat Coordination Center.

McCann Exec Martinez to Join JWT, Replace Bob Jeffrey Come 2015

gustavosmallThere will be a major changing of the guards–well, eventually–at JWT’s top ranks as Gustavo Martinez has been tapped to succeed Bob Jeffrey as the agency’s global CEO in 2015. Jeffrey, who’s served as JWT’s top exec for 15 years, will continue in his role as chairman/worldwide CEO through 2014. In a statement regarding his eventual replacement, Jeffrey says, “Over the past few years, Gustavo and I have cultivated a relationship of mutual admiration and respect. He is passionate about the business, devoted to clients and understands that the key asset of the business is the caring, nurturing and understanding of its people. Gustavo Martinez is the future of JWT.” Couldn’t have ended it with a better exclamation point, we say.

While he awaits his move to top of the heap at JWT, Martinez (pictured) will assume the the role of global president of the WPP-owned agency network effective Feb. 2014. The exec currently serves as president for Europe and Asia at McCann Worldgroup, where’s he spent nearly the last three years. Martinez initially joined the Worldgroup from Ogilvy back in early 2011, replacing Brett Gosper as president of the European region. He subsequently moved up the charts at McCann, taking on more responsibility as co-leader of the agency’s Global Brand Community a year later. According to Campaign Asia-Pacific, McCann hasn’t made any announcement yet as to who Martinez’s potential replacement will be.

‘The Big Ad Gig’ Offers Its Annual Employment Boost for the Young and Inexperienced

The Big Ad Gig” turns five this year, meaning there’s another chance for six creatives to win a monthlong paid freelancing job at a New York City agency. Similar to last year’s campaign, contestants will have to deal with immediate pressure: they’ll each be given only 60 minutes to record a video response to the prompt question. Eight finalists will be selected, and then during Advertising Week, judges will whittle the eight down to six. An interesting stat worth noting: 28 of the 32 past finalists now have full-time positions at agencies.

Atmosphere Proximity and The New York Times are once again quarterbacking the contest. The judges include CEO of Proximity Atmosphere Andreas Combuechen, Ad Council Executive VP Priscilla Natkins, CP+B Partner Rob Reilly, Co:Collective Cofounder Rosemarie Ryan, Deutsch North America CEO Linda Sawyer, Ogilvy and Mather NY CCO Calle Sjoenell, and JWT CEO Bob Jeffrey.
