Foodgroot: The truth is hard to digest

Foodgroot

We all have seen the birds and the whales with their stomach filled with plastic and rubbish. We happen to believe that humans are the next species that’ll be affected by the omnipresent plastic and surrogates.

Researching the food industry we’ve discovered some staggering facts – like the average person ingests 70000 microplastics each year or that 7 out of 10 persons dies of a “non-communicable disease”. And that’s on top of the tones of ultra-processed food that the majority of us are eating it, unaware of how little it has to do anymore with anything remotely natural.

Foodgroot was born out of this believe, that maybe we can save ourselves by being better informed and choosing healthy, wholesome food instead of surrogates.

Foodgroot is an app (as the fast and easy-to-use interface) and more than that, and it has a huge data base updated constantly with every food product that’s put out there to be sold. Its aggregator combines besides all the stocks of food available in every market with information about each ingredient, about the terroir or the farm that supplied that food and on top, with information about what will be good for you as an individual (from blood type matches to other info about your metabolism and what’ll serve you better).

Therefore, thanks to its complex algorithm and huge data base, but also to its super user friendly and quick response, anyone can transform its groceries shopping into a smart and health choice, that’ll provide the wellbeing for individuals or family alike.

The campaign surprises with powerful executions of the consequence of not making such healthy, well informed choices when it comes to food and nutrition.

How Apple's new credit card measures up with Gen Z

With its new credit card Apple is betting that younger consumers will value convenience and privacy over generous cash rewards.

The so-called Apple Card is in many ways very different from standard credit cards. It does not contain a credit card number, expiration date or CVV security code, which helps protect against theft. In addition, Apple Pay’s face and touch ID security features are also embedded in the card. Apple execs, who announced the card this week, are also touting no late fees and lower interest rates.

To use the card, which rolls out this summer, consumers can tap into their iPhone’s Apple Wallet app. The card is meant to be used as a payment method with Apple Pay at physical stores, online or in apps. The card will also have a titanium physical version. Apple partnered with Goldman Sachs on the card.

If you want to get a real, tangible sense of America — the America that the national mainstream media tends to forget — I highly recommend regularly skimming some of the big stories published by the very local, non-mainstream media in towns far from Manhattan and D.C.

Such as the Auburn Journal (front-page headline one day last week: “Highway 49 set for upgrade: two new stoplights, bike lanes on horizon”) of Auburn, Calif. (population 13,963). Or the Dothan Eagle (“Hopes high for 2017 local peanut harvest”) of Dothan, Ala. (pop. 65,496). Or the Herald & Review (“Schools fret over funding”) of Decatur, Ill. (pop. 76,122). Or The Telegraph (“Col. Drew takes command of 78th airbase wing at Robins”) of Macon, Ga. (pop. 92,582). Or the Bozeman Daily Chronicle (“State approves exploratory drilling near Yellowstone”) of Bozeman, Mont. (pop. 45,250). Or the Arizona Daily Star (“Football field at Tucson High is off-limits after flooding”).

Agency Brief: Fleas, ticks and travel

The idea is to demonstrate the brand’s role in protecting a pet. “The series of ads portray pets as a true part of the family and depict how owners emotionally and literally play the role of their pet’s armorprotecting them from dangers seen and unseen,” according to a press release. As someone who has rescued a pair of pups trembling in the bathtub as thunder rumbled outside, I can relate.

Welcoming America: Portrait of a Dreamer

Portrait of a Dreamer is the story of Fidencio Fifeld-Perez, an undocumented artist who comes to the US at age seven. Fidencio documents his journey to America though papal picados (Mexican papercutting) made of maps. Through this medium, he completes the iconic George Washington Athenaeum portrait on the dollar bill with a road map from Mexico to the United States. In his words: “I think about the parallel of the portrait and of America representing the journey that all of us are still in… and by choosing to add another material to this portrait, I see it as an act of freedom.”

Facebook's ad platform enables housing discrimination, HUD lawsuit says

Facebook allows advertisers to exclude people from seeing housing ads based on their race, religion, background and other characteristics, a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says.

The social media giant’s practices amount to housing discrimination under the Fair Housing Act, according to the suit filed Thursday. The 1968 act makes it illegal to discriminate against someone renting or buying a home based on their race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status or disability.

Facebook said it was surprised by the decision from HUD, and noted that it has already been working with the department to address its concerns. It says it has already eliminated thousands of targeting options that could be subject to misuse.
