Wiz Khalifa's newest song is in an Oreo ad

Oreo has tapped rapper Wiz Khalifa and his young son to star in its new “Stay Playful” campaign, which includes a 30-second commercial that will air during the Grammy Awards on Feb. 10.

In the commercial, the rapper, on the phone, holds up a finger and mouths to his son, Sebastianwho clearly wants to playto hold on. When his dad is ready to play, Sebastian, on a toy phone, holds up his finger and makes Wiz Khalifa wait. Then they both get to playing, which includes, of course, eating Oreos. (No, celebrity watchers, Sebastian’s mom Amber Rose isn’t in the ad.)

The ad’s soundtrack, with lyrics about being playful, is sung by Khalifa. Being an Oreo spot, it has cleaner lyrics than “Black and Yellow” and his other hits.

GoDaddy goes for empowerment (you read that right) in its latest brand campaign

Lyn Slater, the 65-year-old professor who became the fashion world’s “Accidental Icon” after her photo was snapped during New York Fashion Week. Food entrepreneur Ayesha Curry (and better half of NBA star Stephen Curry). Electropop artist and mental health advocate Elohim. Sustainable florist Paloma Teppa. These diverse women are among the faces of GoDaddy’s new campaign, “Make the World You Want.” And they’re a far cry from the scantily-clad Super Bowl caricatures that helped to put the brand on the map more than a decade ago.

The campaign continues the brand’s steady push over the last few years to target its marketing more tactically to a diverse base of consumers with different needs, highlighting the various tools GoDaddy offers while promoting a message of empowerment.

“Savvy” Looks at Society’s Fakeness, and Advertising Looks Good In Comparison

I think we’re living in a precarious age. Nothing in the modern media is what It appears to be. We’re surrounded by stories, personalities, and corporate entities that simply operate by the maxim that “the end justifies the means.” Especially if that means outright deception. Shiv Singh and Rohini Luthra, Ph.D. take a closer look […]

In a first, Twitter tells brands how many users it has

Twitter revealed its number of daily users for the first time on Thursday, disclosing that there are 126 million people on the service.

After years of withholding the figure, choosing instead to just share its monthly userbase, Twitter reported what it called “monetizable” daily active users in its fourth-quarter earnings report. The number of daily users grew 9 percent year over year to 126 million in the fourth quarter, Twitter said.

Twitter claimed the number is not comparable to rival services that also report daily users. (For instance, Snapchat reported 186 million daily users in its quarterly report earlier this week; Facebook said it has 1.5 billion daily users.)

Facebook finally lets brands and publishers into Groups

Facebook released new features that gives Pages the power to join Groups, which means publishers and brands can officially participate in the group activity that is increasingly becoming a core focus for the company.

On Wednesday, Facebook announced a slate of new tools, including the ability for Pages to participate in Groups, which are the private communities built around shared interests. Groups have been a feature on Facebook since 2010, but brands’ Pages were not allowed to engage with people within their own personal communities. Pages are the official accounts for brands, publishers and small businesses, separate from personal accounts.

“When we talk about Groups, we are talking about community,” say Alex Himel, VP of business products at Facebook. “In the real world, businesses are part of the community.”

Specifically, we’re looking for a campaign or experience that leveraged design and technology to deepen engagement with customers in new and exciting ways. Emerging or developing technologies like AR, VR or voice might be involved–or perhaps you employed tried and true tools in a completely unexpected way. Not everyone was creeped out by Delta and Coke's flirty napkins

A Delta spokesman says the airline rotates Coke products regularly as part of a brand partnership, “but missed the mark with this one.” Delta began removing the napkins last month.

Coke also issued a statement. “We sincerely apologize to anyone we may have offended,” the beverage giant said, adding that the napkins will be replaced with other designs.

But not everyone was sour on the napkins. Some who posted on social media Thursday appreciated the brands’ attempts at brokering real-life connections at a time when most fliers are digitally focused.
