Peter’s Cold Brew is an especially strong coffee. Thanks to its slow infusion process, it’s triple in strength. To do justice to such an impressive product, we came up with the concept – Blacker than black. Blacker than… matching with your dad on tinder. Or even blacker than… a vinyl record made out of dying unicorn sounds. So that’s exactly what we did. The first ever vinyl record pressed from coffee.

Skittles' Super Bowl Sunday stunt is a 30-minute Broadway show


For the second consecutive year, Skittles is not airing a TV spot on football’s biggest stage but aims to have a big marketing presence for Super Bowl Sunday.

The Mars Wrigley Confectionery brand is selling tickets to a 30-minute show called “Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical” that will have one performance on Feb. 3 and will feature a celebrity to be named later.

(Take a moment to reflect on the fact that a company with an actual NFL sponsorship wants people to pay [proceeds go to charity] to see a show with the word “commercial” in the title instead of running a Super Bowl spot. Okay, let’s continue.)

JC Penney cycles through another CMO


JC Penney is on the hunt for another top marketer, its third in four years. Marci Grebstein, the current chief marketing officer, will depart the Plano, Texas-based brand Feb. 3 to “pursue other opportunities,” according to a company spokeswoman.

On Monday afternoon, the struggling retail chain said it is searching for a chief customer officer. That person will be tasked with leading marketing initiatives, including customer loyalty and messaging, across all channels at the brand. Grebstein, who formerly handled marketing at Lowe’s, joined Penney in 2017. She replaced Mary Beth West, who had been with the brand for just two years before joining Hershey.

Penney has also had its share of departures at the CEO level. Last year, CEO Marvin Ellison exited the department store to lead Lowe’s; Penney hired the former CEO of Joann Stores Jill Soltau late last year.

Great Clips gets new 'do with Tombras as media agency


It’s a media agency makeover for salon brand Great Clips: The marketer has tapped Knoxville, Tennessee’s independent shop Tombras Group as its new media agency of record.

The appointment which involves buying and planning across TV, radio, digital, social, search, programmatic and out-of-home comes after a six-month agency review run by Ark Advisors. Tombras, a full-service shop, takes over media from Minneapolis-based agency Periscope.

In a statement, Periscope said the agency and client parted ways earlier this year due to creative differences. “While we were invited to participate in their recent media RFP, Periscope decided to decline,” the shop said.
