#GoogleDontComeHere

Google Don’t Come Here is a side project made in Brazil to preserve street art on street view.

Context: In Sao Paulo, Brazil, a warrant has been issued to remove all street art on the city. It was news all over the country and people got crazy about it. So, in an attempt to preserve street art, we are asking to Google to don’t refresh Google Street view on some roads, and help street art lives forever on the internet.

Origins

The title “Origins” came about as our way of paying homage to the pulse of Marmoset, to trace back the music to the people who make it all happen: our artists. They’re what keep us moving, their work is what inspires us — whether this be our roster artists or our own staff musicians. We’re infatuated with their stories, their backgrounds, struggles, and how they dream big. This was our way of saying, “we really like your music, thanks for letting us be one of your biggest fans.”

Our origins might be from Portland, but we’re always on the go, at the ready for collaboration in any city. No place is foreign to us, we’ll be there to deliver when a project needs great music.

Reversing Course, Diet Pepsi Goes All-In on Aspartame

PepsiCowhich faced a consumer backlash after it pulled aspartame from Diet Pepsi in 2015is making a full reversal and will once again use the controversial sweetner in the soda’s mainstream variety.

The brand yanked aspartame in mid-2015, replacing it with with sucralose and acesulfame potassium, known as Ace-K. But the move backfired as loyalists clamored for the original formula. So in 2016, the brand brought back the aspartame versionbut only in limited quantities marketed as “classic sweetener blend.” It kept the aspartame-free version as its mainstream variety. But now Diet Pepsi is making the aspartame version its main variety again as part of a marketing revamp.

Beverage Digest first reported the news on Friday. A PepsiCo spokeswoman confirmed the switch to Ad Age but did not comment further. The move sets up a new chapter in the cola wars with Diet Pepsi’s overhaul going head-to-head with Diet Coke, which has also undergone big changes.

Russia Spent $1.25M on Ads, Acted Like an Ad Agency: Mueller

U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller unveiled the details of an allegedly widespread and coordinated campaign by Russians to influence the U.S. presidential election in favor of Donald Trump, delivering on his initial mandate by the Justice Department.

In an indictment announced Friday in Washington, Mueller describes a years-long, multimillion-dollar conspiracy by hundreds of Russians aimed at criticizing Hillary Clinton and supporting Senator Bernie Sanders and Trump. Mueller charged 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities and accused them of defrauding the U.S. government by interfering with the political process.

Those involved spent some $1.25 million per month on ad campaigns and measured their efforts much as an ad agency would, according to the indictment. It says the group kept track of metrics like views and comments, and measured engagement.

Facebook, Google Could Face Tighter Rules on Political Ads

Facebook, Alphabet Inc.’s Google and other online platforms would face stricter rules for political advertising according to a proposed framework that will be considered by the Federal Election Commission.

The proposal, written by Ellen Weintraub, a Democrat and vice chair of the commission, would require online advertisements to carry the same disclaimers from their sponsors as do radio, TV and print ads. The commission will consider the framework, known as a notice of proposed rule making, at its next public hearing on March 8.

The move comes as tech companies face growing scrutiny in Washington ranging from concerns about market dominance to concerns that online platforms are used for sex trafficking of children.

Waymo Wins Approval for First Driverless Ride-Hailing Service

The first U.S. commercial ride-hailing service without human drivers has been approved.

Waymo, a unit of Alphabet Inc., got a permit in late January from the Arizona Department of Transportation to operate as a Transportation Network Company, according to Ryan Harding, a spokesman at the state agency.

The designation lets Waymo’s fleet of driverless Chrysler Pacifica minivans pick up and drop off paying riders in Arizona through a smartphone app or website, the spokesman said on Friday. Uber Technologies and Lyft are good examples of transportation network companies in the state, Harding added.

Budweiser Officially Pivots to Project-Based Work in the U.S.

After counting Anomaly as its U.S. creative agency of record for 8 years, Budweiser has officially moved to a project-based model for its stateside ad campaigns.

A spokesperson for parent company AB InBev confirmed the change today, though one perhaps could have connected the dots based on the fact that Anomaly was not involved in the brand’s Super Bowl campaigns for the first time in several years. (David Miami made the broadcast ad while VaynerMedia handled a digital-only spot featuring the famous Clydesdales.)

AdAge first reported in December that the brand would be reaching out to all of its U.S. agencies for Super Bowl concepts.

Today, a client representative said that Budweiser would use its entire agency team, which consists of David, VaynerMedia, Mosaic and Anomaly, to develop all content and creative campaigns moving forward.

“The US Budweiser team has moved away from the traditional AOR model and instead works with a number of agencies to produce content,” he said. “That currently includes David, Vayner, Mosaic and Anomaly. No one agency is tasked as the primary creative agency.”

Our sources claim the move has led to a revenue loss for Anomaly. The agency, however, says that is not the case because—as also noted in the AdAge piece—it recently replaced VaynerMedia as Budweiser’s global digital and social media AOR. In a seemingly contradictory quote referencing the new U.S. work, Gary Vaynerchuk told AdAge in December that he was excited to “have a bigger seat at the table in 2018.”

It is not clear at this time exactly which markets the global remit covers.

“As someone who has led the Budweiser partnership for 8 years at Anomaly I will speak straight from the gut,” said Anomaly founding partner and joint global CEO Jason DeLand. “Anomaly is and continues to be the lead agency on Budweiser around the world. As global Budweiser grows so does Anomaly’s remit. We will do more with Budweiser in 2018 than we ever have!”

DeLand continued: “I can confidently say no other agency cares more, has worked harder or has learned more in working with ABI. We are proud of our long term relationship and our commitment is to ensure the partnership continues to grow for a long time to come.”

Anomaly’s relationship with another large client, Beats, also changed recently. In January, co-CEO Carl Johnson told Adweek, “A few months ago we decided to take a breather from executing work with Beats, after an intense and successful year creating powerful work together.” Sources confirmed that Apple has chosen to take more of that work in-house, at least for the time being.
