Outdoor
Netflix

For Netfix original series Narcos’ season 3 international launch we created an outdoor ad in Paris named The White Countdown. We transformed the Champs-Elysées Avenue advertising columns into giant hourglasses filled with cocaine, creating a physical count down for fans in the last couple of days before the world release of Narcos season 3 episodes.

Cyber Crime Awareness Society: Online Predators

Cyber Crime Awareness Society

Children go online as much as adults do nowadays. The chances of meeting strangers online are more than actually meeting them in person. In these peices of communication, we are warning the parents to be aware of such ‘people’. The lollipop, chocolate and balloon are things that attract kids and things that strangers may use to befriend the children. They are emojis from various chatting apps. A series of posters was placed at several areas where parents come with their children. When Cyber Crime Awareness Society was approached by parents, they were instructed and taught how to prevent the prospective predators.

Sunil Garud : Illustrator, Graphic Designer, Photographer

DesiCreative
DesiCreative – Indian Advertising Creative Blog and Community (beta 1.4)

Sunil is a graphic designer and an artist from Mumbai. He is raised in Mumbai, a city which doesn’t need any introduction & the city has always captured his imaginations and shaped his dreams.
In his growing years he was fond of drawing and creating things. He spent most of his time in doodling and playing cricket. In his school days only he realized that he has strong inclination towards art, painting, sculptures and photography. And favorably his parents promoted him in his passion & today he is continuing his passion with different mediums & some good happy clients. In his leisure time he indulges in photography, trekking and skiing.

Why are you an Illustrator?
Haha… because I knew I couldn’t attend class, I knew I couldn’t write, I couldn’t count. I just cannot repeat the same thing. Because I simply love creating visuals & things and bring newness in my work by innovative ideas.

Did you attend school for fine art or design?
Yes, I did BFA in communication design with illustration as an elective subject in Sir. J. J. Institute of Applied Art.

You have a distinct style of illustration. How long did it take you to develop your style?
I have been working on my style since 8-9 years & each day I’m learning & exploring. Every day is a new experience for me.

Were there any particular role models for you when you grew up?
There are many and they keep changing. I used to stay near Victoria Terminus, so I was a frequent visitor of NGMA, Mumbai & other art galleries. I was influenced by many artists like F. N. Souza, Tyeb Mehta, V. S. Gaitonde, Sunil Das, Express Tower Photography exhibitions, my parents & Mother Nature.

Who was the most influential personality on your career in Illustrations?
The most influential personalities in my career are Egon Schiele, Saul Bass, David Downton & Nate Williams.

What made you decide to become a freelance illustrator? When did you start freelancing?
After graduation I was working with ad agencies as an art director. After a year or two I felt that working in ad agency is not my cup of tea. Basically I always wanted to start my own set up, where I could deliver art-based projects with more freedom. I started freelancing when I was in the 2nd year of art school.

Are many advertising agencies getting illustrations made these days? Do you work more with agencies or publishers?
Yes, these days many agencies doing art based projects but they always work with different illustrators as per their requirement. I work with ad agencies, publishers, individual writers, fashion designers, design firms and I have some individual direct clients also.

Was there any time when you wanted to quit Illustrations?
No. I always wanted to pursue my career in illustration. It is a sort of meditation for me. I enjoy it so much.

Have you got any assignments for the digital medium?
Yes, recently I have worked for Adobe Summit 2017, I’ve designed many websites & currently working on an App design assignments.

Any other Indian Illustrators who you admire?
Ravi Paranjpe, Mario Miranda & all Tara Books artists they all are fabulous.

Do you have any favorite fellow illustrators or resources relating to your fields?
Yes, many.. Sameer Kulavoor, Lokesh Karekar, Janine Shroff, Prabha Mallya, Vivek Shinde, Sajid Wajid Shaikh they all are my favorite.

You have such a wide experience as a top working professional. What advice do you have for aspiring creative professionals? Would you advise them to take on Illustration as a career option? Is it paying well enough?
I’m still learning & exploring my work. Illustration has wide range of opportunities in creative field. Be an observer, use your imagination. Carry your sketch book- draw on PAPER first. Hard work pays off.

What’s your dream project?
I want to make every project a dream project.

Mac or PC?
Anytime, Mac.

Who would you like to take out for dinner?
Haha…what a fantasy it would be, the gorgeous lady Parvathy Thiruvoth Kottuvata AKA Panimalar.

What’s on your iPod?
My all time favorites:
Maryan, Vinnaithandi Varuvaya, Kappa TV Music Mojo seasons, Coke studio seasons,Eddie Vedder, Wadali Brothers, Ilayaraja, James Horner , Philip Glass, James Newton Howard, Super Deluxe and many more.
