The #artSmellery at the renowned Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam exhibits six paintings from world famous artists, such as Mondrian, Lichtenstein and Van Gogh, that have been transformed into scent-based masterpieces. As part of a campaign promoting the new sensoFresh odor removal program on Siemens washing machines, the #artSmellery exhibition demonstrates the influence smells can have over the way in which we perceive things. The fascinating thing about the exhibition is that visitors can’t see anything on the canvases – they have to smell them to experience the art. The odors awaken emotions and trigger memories that lend a whole new feeling for the picture and prove just how powerful odors can be. The exhibition was created by Heimat Hamburg and realized in close collaboration with the smell artist Jorg Hempenius and the museum.

CW Upfronts Diary: In a Pitch for Diversity, Network Reminds Buyers That All Heroes Don't Wear Capes


After a week of brazen hucksterism designed to separate advertisers from their marketing dollars, Gina Rodriguez on Thursday detonated an emo bomb onstage at the New York City Center, and for the first time since the upfronts began it felt like the audience wasn’t being outright hustled.

As she has done so eloquently in past upfront presentations, the star of the CW’s “Jane the Virgin” won over buyers with a heartfelt speech about how television has the potential to bring people together by fostering understanding and empathy. (It probably goes without saying that she wasn’t talking about cable news.)

“I’m an artist, and I see the world through that lens,” Rodriguez said, noting that she stars in one of the five CW shows with a woman at the top of the call sheet. “Art tears down misconceptions and opens eyes to the beauty of our differences. We can’t all be the same, but we can learn a lot about what we are not through art.”

The New Releases here ran on TV for the first time yesterday. The Most Engaging ads are ranked by digital activity (including online views and social shares) over the past week.

Among the new releases, Apple’s “Built for Ian M.” commercial shows how Switch Control in the iPhone iOS can help a nature lover who happens to be a quadriplegic photograph a beautiful waterfall. Jeep serves up another one of its “Find your true north” ads that play on the idea of “recalculating” your life’s journey. And Gillette plugs a service called Gillette On Demand that lets forgetful guys reorder razor blades by text message.

Oscar Mayer is driving its six Wienermobiles across the country this spring and summer to hype its reformulated hot dogs.

The products now contain no added nitrates or nitrites (well, except those naturally occurring in the celery juice that Oscar Mayer uses to preserve product quality instead), no artificial preservatives and no by-products.

The promotional effort kicked off in early May and will heat up for big seasonal moments such as Memorial Day parades and Independence Day. While Wienermobiles have been around since 1936, they still garner plenty of attention, as was seen in New York earlier this month and in the brand’s own video, shot in small-town Whittier, Alaska.
