How Marriott Is Innovating in Asia As It Expands There, Fast

“It’s a lot of opportunity to think differently,” said Peggy Fang Roe, chief sales and marketing officer for Marriott International in Asia Pacific. As Ms. Roe notes, 61% of the world lives in Asia Pacific. “There are already 100 million outbound trips a year out of China, and in the next five years it will double to 200 million,” Ms. Roe said. Among the big questions she’s asking is how the company will help Chinese travelers see the world, and how it will cater to their family trips.

An innovator comes to Asia

Ms. Roe, who moved from the U.S. to Hong Kong nearly two years ago, is one of Ad Age’s 2015 Women to Watch China for using startup-style thinking at an established brand. Throughout her 12 years at Marriott, Ms. Roe has focused mostly on innovation work. While in the U.S., she led the redesign and rebranding of long-stay TownePlace Suites, now Marriott’s fastest growing brand in the U.S.

It’s one thing as a consumer to go through the frustrating experience of calling for customer service and getting lost in a maze of “Press one for…” and “press two for…” and inevitably being sent to the wrong extension, misunderstood by a bot, or simply cut off and forced to repeat the process. But it’s another to encounter it as a reporter trying to get in touch with companies that make these so-called interactive voice-response systems. Each request made to speak with a living, breathing human for this story was met with a recorded instruction to leave a voicemail.

In short, IVRs systems practice what they preach. “We purposely designed it to have bad customer service,” said Joe Gagnon, chief strategist of Aspect, a Phoenix-based company which markets customer-service solutions such as IVRs. “We made it bad on purpose.”

It’s a strange statement considering that, according to Frost and Sullivan, IVR systems globally will sell $2.6 billion worth of product by 2018 and that an Oracle study reports 67% of consumers will stop doing business with a company following a poor customer service experience. Another 86% said they would be willing to pay more money for a better-quality service.

Trump's Ground Campaign Spending in Early States Could Signal Seriousness

Any number of pundits have dismissed the notion that Donald Trump is serious about his presidential run. But a perusal of his campaign’s latest filing with the Federal Elections Commission might change their minds. Why would the real estate tycoon spend more than 12% of his campaign budget, as reported thus far, on old-school, boots-on-the-ground campaign tactics if he really only wants media attention?

The campaign spent around $170,000 between April and June 2015 to pay field consultants including around $10,000 to Brad Nagel, an Iowa field rep who was fired by the campaign early this month because of his racist posts on Facebook.

That may seem like chump change for Mr. Trump, but considering the campaign spent only $1.4 million in that period — a sliver of the $18 million spent by Hillary Clinton’s campaign through June — it’s worth taking a second look at spending that comprises more than 10% of his budget.

Shruti Esto : Graphic and UI/UX Designer

desicreative
desicreative – Indian Advertising Creative Blog and Community (beta 1.4)

Shruti is a Graphic Designer based in Chandigarh. She is born and brought up in Shimla and studied animation & design from Arena Animation Shimla. Specializing in Digital Marketing Collaterals, User Interface Design, info graphics and Graphic Designs. She builds clean, appealing, and functional interfaces which comply with the latest web standards. She is  working in the industry for last 3 years. As a professional graphic and web designer, she brings a range of art and design disciplines to every project she works on.

“I am a Graphic Designer based in Chandigarh, But that’s just a part of it. Design is my life. It’s my roller-coaster. Without it, my world would be black and white.  After completing my course, this love of creating lead me into various directions which included becoming a vfx artist and animator. As soon as I was introduced to the world of digital graphics however, I fell in love.” I’ve got one foot in the world of digital media one in UI/UX, and a love for both.”

Why are you a Graphic Designer?
I’ve grown up like any other kid watching cartoon network or pogo. That time I always wondered how does these things are created what’s the idea behind this but never thought of making it as my career. I always wanted to something creative but it was never clear to me what. So here I’m still learning and creating something creative every day.

Did you attend school for fine art or design?
Yes, I’ve studied Advance Animation Course from Arena Animation Shimla and  was the first passed out  batch.

You have a distinct style of Design. How long did it take you to develop your style?
I experiment a lot and try hard to not do the same thing again. The time I moved to Bangalore for my second job was a life changing point for me. Got to learn a lot, enhanced my skills and my love for digital marketing and typography started building from there only.

Were there any particular role models for you when you grew up?
I never grew up wanting to be a designer. I thought I would be an engineer or RJ. And yes I do have one role model and that is my father.

Who was the most influential personality on your career in graphic/motion design?
Akshar Pathak, I just simply love his designs.

When did you start freelancing?
I started freelancing while I was in college 2nd year.

Was there any time when you wanted to quit graphic design?
Never, How can I think of quitting it, I’ve just started learning and just love to do what I’m doing.

Are many advertising agencies hiring graphic designers? Do you work more with agencies or producers/publishers?
Yes, these days almost every agency is Digital agency and they do hire people like anything as they  are almost start ups and struggling to be on top. Yeah I’ve been working for an digital agency and just loved working there. The learning you get from these agencies and all you won’t be getting it from anywhere else. So just grab the knowledge from where ever you can.

Do you have clients who give you steady work or do you advertise for new clients often?
I have steady clients who spread good words around. But up till now, doing good work to get good work has been enough.

Any other Indian graphic/motion designers who you admire?
Nitin Rao Kumblekar
Vaibhav More
Nupur Bhargava

What advice do you have for aspiring creative professionals? Would you advise them to take on graphic design as a career option?
All you have to do is experiment a lot. Never stop learning new skills. Play a lot with fonts and keep your photoshop layers named.  And most important never work for free. You are a Paidlancer not Freelnacer.

Do you think Clients are opening up to keeping aside a decent respectable budget for design work? Do you think clients are understanding that they need to invest in Design as a communication tool and also to cut the clutter, and that good design comes at a price?
Yes, But I think it will take some time if we’re talking about Indian Clients. Good clients will always give you complete freedom and creative space to work on their project. But then again there are some clients who don’t understand this, and demand for Ferrari and their budget is of Tata Nano.

Mac or PC?
Mac.

Who would you like to take out for dinner?
Akshar Pathak.

What’s on your iPod?
I don’t have a iPod but other gadgets are also there and Right now is Love me like you do- Ellie Goulding.

Whats your Twitter Handle?

Heineken "If you're call" (2015) 1:00 (Ireland)

The tenth Rugby World Cup Tournament twill take place in the UK, and Heineken is sponsoring it.

Dublin-based international creative agency ROTHCO, has developed ‘It’s your call’, a global campaign which will give rugby fans the opportunity to actually take part in the start of every game in the tournament. In an exciting first, fans will be responsible for the coin toss that will determine which nation kicks off the game. Everyone across the world will have the chance to enter a competition to flip the coin at their country’s game and one very lucky fan will flip the coin at the Rugby World Cup final on October 31st 2015. They are literally minting thousands of coins to give rugby fans in each participating country the chance of flipping the coin at their nations game.

This spot shows just what a lucky coin can do.
