Ad Agency SpotCo Boasts 16 Tony-Nominated Clients

As Broadway prepares for its biggest night, one agency is likely to come out a winner, regardless of the shows that take home Tony Awards.

SpotCo, a New York-based entertainment advertising agency, handled the advertising for 16 Tony-nominated shows. The Tony Awards are Sunday, June 7 and will air on CBS.

SpotCo relies on visual and interactive advertisements to crack the niche theater-going market and create buzz about Broadway’s newest productions. With only 38 Broadway theaters in New York, the market is small and filled with turnover.

W+K London Makes it Right for Three

W+K London launched a new spot for mobile company Three, delivering the message “When stuff sucks #makeitright.”

Like 2013’s viral hit “The Pony,” the spot features its share of anthropomorphic dancing, this time with a Muppet-like creature rather than a small pony. The ad follows the purple creature as he experiences a series of small misfortunes and then remembers advice from his parents to “make it right.” He decides to spread the message, “helping” people stuck in difficult situations, like a girl who dropped her ice cream cone, a cheerleader who falls from a human pyramid, a couple whose car is hanging over the edge of a cliff and a man trapped in quicksand by singing and dancing. Like “The Pony,” the approach is patently ridiculous, but the new effort doesn’t do as well a job of tying the shenanigans to the brand’s message. The spot ends by directing viewers to a campaign microsite, which claims “The Furry Revolution Starts Friday 5 June,” which is perhaps not the best choice of words.

At the production-focused show, whose winners become part of MOMA’s permanent collection, three of the brand’s ads from W&K, the Super Bowl ad “All You Can Eat,” “My Butt,” and “If You’re Happy,” won for Advertising Excellence/Campaign, one of the night’s Best of Show awards. They were directed by Sam Brown of Imperial Woodpecker , Martin De Thurah of Epoch Films and John Hillcoat of Skunk U.S. respectively.

Best Practices: How to Harness the Chaos of Experimentation for Marketing Breakthroughs

As marketers, we are master tinkerers. We tweak this and modify that as we follow our customers in their individual digital journeys. The ad-tech revolution has given us many new tools in our toolbox to delight any hardcore marketer.

Ironically though, as tools got more sophisticated, learning became more obscure — veiled in a faux “big data certainty culture” that leaves little room for the serendipitous learning achieved only through experimentation.

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” — Thomas Edison.

Cadillac to Sponsor First-Ever New York Fashion Week for Men

While the New York womens’ collections have failed to land a car company to replace longtime title sponsor Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac has signed on to become the first-ever automotive backer of New York Fashion Week: Men’s.

The agreement, signed to last two seasons, includes producing a variety of related events and providing Cadillac vehicles as shuttles for attendees. Shinola, Amazon Fashion, and Dreamworks have also been confirmed as sponsors for the fashion week focusing on menswear.

“I am very much interested in taking Cadillac into the world of fashion,” Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen said. “The whole idea of beginning to strengthen Cadillac’s position as a lifestyle brand is very much central to our mission. This is a good start.”

A Jurassic Park Transport Crate Has Appeared in the Middle of a London Train Station

London’s Waterloo Station has an attention-grabbing piece of cargo passing through: a crate made to hold “predatory livestock” for Jurassic World’s fictional InGen Technologies.

With the summer blockbuster’s opening weekend just a week away, Universal Pictures is clearly stepping up its marketing effort with cobranded partnerships like the (actually decent-sounding) Dairy Queen Jurassic Smash Blizzard and a big out-of-home push.

The Waterloo stunt quickly proved its worth in social media, vaulting to Reddit’s front page today.

Will more InGen transports and equipment start popping up in other parts of the world as the Jurassic World’s premiere draws closer? Hold on to your butts!

Air Collages with Classical Paintings on City Snapshots
