The best April Fools’ Day gag products are the ones that leave you wondering why it’s not already a real thing.

That’s definitely the case with Tinder for Uber (and its partner site, Uber for Tinder), a partnership between two of the moment’s most popular mobile apps.

The supposed service lets you swipe your way to a romantic rendezvous by finding a match on Tinder and then each booking Uber rides to go meet in the middle. I’m sure there are already affair-planning sites that offer something similar, though for the sake of my search history and my marriage, I’m not going to Google that one.

April Fools’ Day is one of my favorite advertising holidays. It’s a magical day when brands manage to be smart, relevant and amusing on their smallest budgets of the year. It’s a lesson we could all learn, year round.

With a few exceptions like Google (including YouTube), Virgin and ThinkGeek, which have practically built the day into their business model, most brands are tossing a pittance of their marketing budget toward a daylong prank, just for the fool of it. And there’s something beautifully foolish in that, don’t you think?

Lego Sculptures Inspired by the Natural World

Depuis plus de 10 ans, l’artiste Sean Kenney réalise d’immenses sculptures à l’aide de LEGO. Son œuvre la plus récente est en vedette dans son exposition itinérante « Nature Connects » qui comprend 27 sculptures inspirées par la nature. Chaque réalisation demande un nombre vertigineux de pièces et d’heures de travail. Par exemple, le bison à taille réelle aura nécessité 45 143 pièces et 700 heures de travail.

Já começo dizendo que este aplicativo ainda não está disponível no Brasil – pelo menos para usuários iOS -, mas a ideia é boa e pode inspirar outras iniciativas como esta por aqui. Criado pela Chelsea Apps Factory, o iCukoo promete transformar aquela preguiça de acordar que bate logo de manhã em ajuda para quem precisa.

Basicamente, o iCukoo é um alarme comum, com uma diferença: toda vez que você clica em “soneca” para o alarme parar de tocar, você é obrigado a fazer uma pequena doação a uma entidade da sua preferência.

É simples, eficiente e todo mundo sai ganhando: seja a entidade que o usuário escolheu, seja o próprio usuário, que consegue superar a preguiça a partir do momento em que começa a sentir o problema no bolso.

Moto Selfie Stick, o pau de selfie oficial da Motorola nesse 1º de abril

As empresas de tecnologia transformaram o dia 1º de abril em quase uma comemoração no calendário das marcas. Para aproveitar a onda, elas se esforçam em criar comerciais e produtos completamente falsos, mas com um toque de realidade.

A intenção, é claro, é posicionar a marca, e quem sabe também algum dos seus produtos, frente ao público, ainda que seja fazendo uma piadinha de dia da mentira.

A Motorola mostra que pode fazer um comercial tão emocionante como as suas concorrentes fazem com produtos reais, mas anunciando algo bizarro – o #MotoSelfieStick, um pau de selfie da marca, feito de madeira, e com todo o cuidado de confecção que permite que ele seja utilizado por destros e canhotos (!)

“O Selfie Stick é uma extensão do que você é”, diz um dos personagens do filme criado para essa piada.

Se não ficou óbvio, a gente deixa: o Moto Selfie Stick não existe, mas o vídeo vale o play.

O setor de games está cada vez mais consolidando seu status de eSport e, com isso, recebendo mais ferramentas para os seus ‘atletas’. A mais recente delas é a Plays.TV, uma espécie de Instagram para os gamers.

Diferente do Twitch, que tem foco em reprisar ou transmitir ao vivo partidas inteirinhas, de cabo a rabo, o Plays.TV quer ajudar os gamers a compartilharem momentos das suas partidas – pode ser aquela estratégia incrível que deu certo, ou um ápice daquela jogada.

Criada pela Raptr, o Plays.TV funciona com um app para Windows que registra as telas do jogo enquanto a partida acontece. Se algo bacana acontecer, basta o gamer acionar o Plays.TV que ele faz um clipe daquele momento. A partir disso, o jogador pode escolher compartilhar aquele clipe na própria rede social da Plays, bem como no Facebook, Twitter ou YouTube.

Eles juram que não são concorrentes do Twitch, já que o objetivo é mais compartilhar trechinhos dos games do que transmiti-los por inteiro. Cada clipe compartilhável da Plays tem entre 20 segundos e 20 minutos de duração, o que é razoavelmente pouco, considerando quanto pode durar uma partida.

Ola – the app based cab booking service in India, this morning launched a film online announcing a new service called Ola Air. As personal city based chopper service that can be accessed through their app. The launched featured their CEO and some elaborate features on the Ola Air App. The app even allows you to use their newly launched Ola Cafe food delivery service in the air. As the day would be it all turned out to be an April Fool’s prank from Ola. The company even created a fake microsite to give life to the idea. www.olaair.com. The  hastag #olaair is currently trending top ten on twitter in India. The announcement film was launched in the wee hours of the fool’s day.

People on the Move: Tourneau Welcomes Katherine Bahamonde Monasebian as CMO


Former C-Wonder executive Katherine Bahamonde Monasebian has moved to Tourneau as chief marketing officer and new business development. In this role, Ms. Monasebian will lead efforts to further evolve the brand, digital and retail marketing strategy and e-commerce channel, as well as capitalize on new growth opportunities. Prior to joining Tourneau, Ms. Monasebian served as chief marketing officer and executive VP-e-commerce at Burch Creative Capital’s lifestyle brand, C. Wonder, and head of e-commerce at Juicy Couture and Lululemon Athletica.

Veteran music executive/singer Tommy Page was appointed senior VP-brand partnerships at Cumulus Media, Inc. Mr. Page joins Cumulus from Pandora, where he led artist partnerships, branded content and events as VP-artist and brand partnerships. Prior to Pandora, Mr. Page was a publisher of Billboard magazine where he relaunched the Billboard brand. He was also previously an A&R and radio promotion executive at Warner Bros. Records. Page started his music career as a recording artist for Sire Records and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his single, “I’ll Be Your Everything” in April 1990. He has recorded nine studio albums achieving sales of more than three million units worldwide.

Drumroll hired Angela Huynh as junior copywriter, working on the Bing and Skype accounts. Ms. Huynh was previously a freelance junior copywriter for Story Worldwide in New York City, on the USA Network and WGN TV accounts. The agency also hired Gage Kelsey as assistant account executive, working on Bing and MSN. Previously, Mr. Kelsey was a graphic designer for Row Marketing Solutions. He was also brand manager at Roger’s Rub Seasoning.

GoDaddy Raises $460 Million After IPO Priced Above Range


GoDaddy raised $460 million in an initial public offering after pricing its shares above the marketed range.

The 18-year-old company, which provides domain-name registration and hosting services, sold 23 million shares for $20 each, according to a statement. It was offering 22 million shares for $17 to $19 apiece.

The stock, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GDDY, will begin trading Wednesday.

Amid Distributor Concerns, Coors Light Spikes an Ad Campaign


MillerCoors has scrapped a planned campaign for Coors Light because ads did not go over well with distributors. Instead the brewer is working on a new effort in hopes that it will be ready by June in time for the important summer drinking season.

The stakes are high because Coors Light is the brewer’s largest brand and the so-called Silver Bullet has been stuck in a sales slump.

The brand had planned to run a campaign called “The Cold One” by WPP’s Cavalry. In an interview in early March, Chief Marketing Officer Andy described it as as a “character-driven” effort that would get heavy digital emphasis. People who have seen the ads described the campaign as being set in the mountains and involving a man who dispensed Rocky Mountain wisdom about Coors Light.
