Last night in Los Angeles, Advertising Age and Creativity teamed with Droga5 and WME to host a celebration toasting the honorees of the 2014 Creativity 50 as well as some of the alumni of C50s past. Held at the Millwick in downtown L.A., some of the most creative minds got a chance to mingle over an intimate dinner in a mild and pleasant clime (a nice switch from the snowbound Ad Age Agency A-List party earlier in the week).

MRY Will Not Replace Its CCO with a Drone

In case you missed it (you didn’t), MRY made headlines in certain tech media circles this week for a stunt video in which it claimed to have begun hiring drones as employees…and someone was a little perturbed that we didn’t post on it.

Here is CMO David Berkowitz’s guest story on The Verge and here’s the video itself:

The agency also lost its CCO Cedric Devitt to Big Spaceship this week; the latter agency, which seems to be on something of a minor hiring spree, pried VP of tech Vinny DiBartolo away from R/GA as well.

But, as Berkowitz tells us:

“Unfortunately for the drones, their interviews with the creative team didn’t go over that well, but they do hold more promise for delivering coffee. Fortunately, we had some great leadership already in place, and our veteran David Weinstock is now our sole Chief Creative Officer.”

You may remember that, almost exactly one year ago, Devitt released an internal memo to clarify Weinstock’s promotion to the co-CCO position after three years as ECD; since last March, he has overseen creative for all of MRY’s clients “west of the Mississippi.”

While it’s true that most agencies employ “zero drones,” Deutsch LA proved over the holidays that MRY is hardly alone in jumping on this trend…and that drones have questionable taste in whiskey.

TV Station Cuts to Reporter for the Weather and He's Ordering McDonald's Instead

It’s gotta be tough to work the weather beat this winter on the East Coast. Well, here’s a pretty hilarious video out of Baltimore, showing Fox 45’s Candace Dold tossing to “Traffic Jam Jimmy”—who just happens to be in the McDonald’s drive-through, trying to order a fish sandwich. 

“Hey Candace, we’re live? Whoops!” he says. “Hey, I’ve been in the car since 4 o’clock. I’m starvin’. I’m just gettin’ somethin’ real quick” Then a quick shout at the drive-through attendant “Hey! Is it too early to get a fish sandwich?!”

What’s great about the video is that the station just runs with it, showing the orange-bearded, O’s-capped Jimmy improvising the segment—and his meal, as it was still breakfast time.

Home video of the segment has been circulating around Facebook, but it seems Fox 45 is taking pride in the goof—it uploaded the segment to YouTube and has given us a perfect copy of the moment.
