Staples to Launch New Campaign Aimed at Small Businesses

Staples will break a national campaign Feb. 8, showing how it helps small business customers achieve success in affordable ways. Earlier this week, the retailer announced plans to acquire Office Depot in a deal valued at $6.3 billion, which will further consolidate the office supply space.

The campaign, which includes TV, radio and online ads, was created by McGarry Bowen, New York. The budget was undisclosed.

The campaign is an extension of Staples’ rebranding effort from last year. “We relaunched the Staples brand in 2014 with our new ‘Make More Happen’ tagline to showcase our expanded product assortment,” said Frank P. Bifulco Jr., executive VP-global marketing at Staples. “The new ‘Make More Happen’ campaign highlights the ways Staples and our associates help small business customers.”

'Blacklist' Delivers for NBC on Comedy-Free Thursday

The launch of NBC’s first comedy-free Thursday night since the 1980-81 broadcast season was a bit of a toss-up, as a transplanted “The Blacklist” spiffed up the joint while newcomer “Allegiance” was roundly ignored.

According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, the Thursday night premiere of “The Blacklist” averaged nearly 10.1 million viewers and a 2.4 in the coveted adults 18-49 demo, and while that marked a 4% decline from the show’s final Monday night appearance back on Nov. 10, it was also a huge improvement when compared to the previous time slot occupants. The canceled freshman sitcoms “Bad Judge” and “A to Z” combined to average an anemic 0.9 rating in the dollar demo, making the pair NBC’s worst-performing 9 p.m. comedies since last previous season’s disastrous battery of “Sean Saves the World” and “The Michael J. Fox Show” (1.1).

All told, the heart of NBC’s new no-chuckle Thursday lineup fared about as well as can be expected — and it didn’t disappoint advertisers. If sustainable over time, last night’s 167% jump in targeted viewers represents a massive turnaround for a prime time block that has been a virtual ghost town since “ER” flatlined back in 2009.

Hannah Davis is a Cat Lady in DirecTV's Swimsuit Issue Ad

DirecTV gave Rob Lowe a hairy back and creepy demeanor in its TV commercials. Now it’s transforming three of this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue models — cover star Hannah Davis as well as Chrissy Teigen and Nina Agdal — in print ads that will appear in the issue.

Grey, New York, is the agency behind the ad, according to Jon Gieselman, senior VP-marketing at DirecTV. He said the satellite TV provider has run ads in the annual Swimsuit Issue for the last nine years.

This year, DirecTV bought seven ad pages, which will run in the front of the magazine.
