Posted in: UncategorizedAccenture to Acquire Reactive, Heating Up Consultant Battle For Marketer Dollars
Posted in: UncategorizedAccenture has entered into an agreement to acquire Reactive, an independent Australian ad agency and winner of Ad Age’s Small Agency Award for digital campaign of the year in 2014.
The acquisition is yet another move towards marketing by a company with IT roots. Accenture, IBM, Dell and Deloitte are now all trying to make money by helping companies use digital tools to get smarter about the way they interact with customers, and all expect marketing to influence how the money is spent.
“Brands are recognizing that being relevant to customers has never depended more on how they engage with customers digitally,” said Brian Whipple, senior managing director at Accenture Interactive.
Martin Ringqvist Joins 72andSunny as GCD
Posted in: UncategorizedWe didn’t run this story last week because we couldn’t verify it, but here it is: 72andSunny has hired Martin Ringqvist, best known as the guy behind the Van Damme “Epic Split” spot, as its newest group creative director.
Ringqvist will begin his new GCD role in January, joining the agency from Sweden’s Forsman & Bodenfors, where he was senior partner and copywriter.
72andSunny wouldn’t tell AdAge which accounts Ringqvist will work on just as they wouldn’t tell us whether last week’s rumors about his hiring were true. But the press release does provide us with a couple of quotes, which we will now dutifully reproduce. From CCO Glenn Cole:
“Martin’s innovative body of work speaks for itself, but his role in helping to shape the famously collaborative culture at Forsman & Bodenfors is just as significant. I’m excited to see how he will evolve what we do and how we do it.”
From Ringqvist himself:
“High pace, demanding clients and a total commitment to the task. Who would say no to that? And when it stood clear to me that the people at 72andSunny were just as amazing as their work, it was a no-brainer.”

VIA Agency Gets Scary for Three Olives Vodka
Posted in: UncategorizedWe’ve never quite understood the idea behind Warren Zevon classic “Werewolves of London,” though a quick Google search tells us that Phil Everly came up with the idea and Zevon just improvised.
At any rate, those Werewolves have gone over to the sexy side in a new campaign created by Maine-based VIA Agency to promote the very British Three Olives Vodka. Here’s the first spot, titled “Full Moon”:
This hirsute fellow is almost aggressive enough for us to call him “Bond-like.”

Posted in: UncategorizedThe Van Damme effort was part of a larger b-to-b campaign called “Live Tests,” which featured a number of impressive stunt videos, though the film featuring the action star garnered the most attention. “Epic Split” became an awards-show darling this year, racking up multiple trophies, including ones at Cannes, the AICP awards, the U.K.’s D&AD Awards, and it won Best in Show at the One Show, and Forsman & Bodenfors was named agency of the year, among others. Unilever Scoops Up Talenti Gelato Brand
Posted in: UncategorizedUnilever, the world’s biggest maker of ice cream, acquired Talenti Gelato & Sorbetto to expand its frozen offerings and counter sluggish growth among its mainstream food brands.
Talenti, founded in 2003 and based in Minneapolis, will generate more than $120 million in sales this year from flavors like Blood Orange and Caramel Cookie Crunch, Unilever said today in a statement. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Since taking the helm in 2009, Unilever Chief Executive Officer Paul Polman has sought to expand the company’s $11.7 billion refreshment business, which includes ice-cream brands such as Breyers, Ben & Jerry’s and Klondike. In 2011, the company took its Magnum brand from Europe to the U.S., hitting $100 million in sales in the first year. Its last ice-cream deal was the 2011 purchase of Ingman Ice Cream Oy AB. Unilever currently sells gelato under the Breyers brand.
Top Apple Analyst Says iAd Is a Mobile Ad Zombie
Posted in: UncategorizedOver the past year, Apple has taken several steps to prove that iAd, its costly mobile-ad network, is still around. But one of the company’s top analysts has all but called it a zombie.
During a talk on Apple’s business at the Business Insider Ignition conference, Gene Munster, a senior research analyst at Piper Jaffray, said iAd is “not a focus for Apple,” adding he does not expect any changes over the next two years.
Steve Jobs launched iAd in 2010 to lend Apple’s devices — and design cachet — to mobile advertising, which he declared “really sucks.” The service debuted with several large brand advertisers, but its high cost — upwards of $10 million for exclusive categories — kept others at bay.
#SoloSelfie Goes Viral for Beats in a Week When Repeats Ruled
Posted in: UncategorizedThis week’s Viral Video chart is full of favorites. Six of the week’s ten entries are making their second (or third) appearances, and two other spots are occupied by campaigns built on previous successes.
Turkish Airlines’ #EpicFood campaign claimed the chart’s top spot for a second consecutive week after piling up more than 27.5 million views in the week that ended Sunday, enough for a total of 60 million since its debut. Elsewhere, Foot Locker’s “Week of Greatness 2014,” Poo Pourri’s “Even Santa Poops” and three different Google campaigns all made repeat visits to the chart.
The two newcomers building on hits came from Beats by Dre and Old Spice. The Beats by Dre campaign, #SoloSelfie, is a star-studded, music-driven spot, while Old Spice’s campaign, “Dadsong,” is a kind of sequel to the breakout hit “Momsong” (as highlighted last week by Creativity, which made it an Editor’s Pick.)
Why Jeff Bezos Is 'Very Optimistic' About The Washington Post
Posted in: UncategorizedWhen Jeff Bezos bought The Washington Post in August 2013, the media world couldn’t understand it. Why would the founder and CEO of Amazon — arguably one of the most forward-looking, disruptive companies in the world — buy a print newspaper?
On Tuesday, Mr. Bezos, speaking at Business Insider’s Ignition 2014 conference, shed a modicum of light on his decision, saying the Post is an important institution with a business case that isn’t hopeless.
“I’m very optimistic about the future” of the Post, he told Henry Blodget, editor and CEO of Business Insider.
