J&J and Tylenol Have a New Take on Norman Rockwell's America


What would a Norman Rockwell family look like today? Johnson & Johnson’s Tylenol has an answer in its new ad campaign, which is obviously far more diverse than the white, middle-class gathering featured in the iconic “Freedom from Want” painting of 1943.

Tylenol’s take shows a Japanese family, an African-American family headed by a grandmother with a pierced eyebrow, and a blended family that includes a lesbian couple. The work from WPP’s J. Walter Thompson includes a voiceover from the painter’s granddaughter, Abigail Rockwell.

Following a soft launch of the initial video for Thanksgiving and release of a second video on the Yee Hoshida family on Tuesday, Tylenol will launch videos on other families over the course of the holiday season backed by broader online media and PR support, the latter from Edelman’s Zeno unit, which worked with JWT on developing the insights.

Dizem que na internet, mais do que a imitação, a melhor forma de se medir o sucesso e relevância de algo é a sátira. Apesar de isso ser bastante discutível, é impossível negar que a divulgação do teaser trailer de Star Wars – Episódio VII: O Despertar da Força foi uma das notícias mais relevantes da semana passada. Tão relevante que passou a render diferentes versões desde então, como a LEGO, que já mostramos por aqui.

Abaixo, fizemos uma “catança” por aí para mostra como seria o teaser trailer do Episódio VII se ele tivesse outros diretores, como o criador original da saga, George Lucas, o explode-tudo Michael Bay e o contador de histórias Wes Anderson.

Depois dessa, a gente ainda fica imaginando versões de Kubrick, Hitchcock, Tarantino, Woody Allen, Scorsese ou Almodóvar…

Marsala é a cor do ano da Pantone para 2015

Junto com as retrospectivas de fim de ano, chega também a aguardada escolha da Cor do Ano, realizada pela Pantone. A conhecida escala de cores apontou um tom marrom-avermelhado, mais fechado e sério, como tendência para 2015. Chamada de Marsala, mesmo nome de um tipo de vinho italiano, a cor acabou se transformando em motivo de piada nas redes sociais, por coincidentemente levar a mesma nomenclatura de um molho da rede de comida italiana Olive Garden.

Não era a proposta da Pantone, obviamente. “Assim como o fortificado vinho que dá o nome à Marsala, esse tom saboroso engloba a riqueza satisfatória de uma farta refeição, enquanto as suas raízes marrom-avermelhadas emanam uma sofisticada e natural sensação terrosa”, explica o release que apresenta a cor.

O choque do público provavelmente se dá por conta do contraste com as cores dos anos anteriores, mais vivas e alegres – como foi o caso do Tangerine Tango (2012), Emerald (2013) e Radiant Orchid (2014).
