Post-Dave & Buster's, How to Play it Safe in Social

Are you swelling with outrage over something so preposterously outrageous? Are you offended? Are you offended even more that people aren’t offended

Then you must have read the latest brand’s tweet.

Of course, you probably didn’t see that tweet. It had already been taken down. So you read about it in a Twitter or Facebook post by a friend of yours that linked to an outlet that shared a screen shot of the tweet. That way, you still had a chance to be offended, but you didn’t have the rare pleasure of being one of the original offendees whose tweets about their outrage were probably quoted along with the screen shot.

Advertisers Shake Off Facebook's Latest Reach Cuts

To paraphrase a cliche: The first time Facebook trimmed marketers’ organic reach, it was shame on Facebook for not alerting brands that the content bar had been raised. The second time, it was shame on marketers for still posting stuff people thought was spammy. The third time — last week — it was whatever.

Late last Friday Facebook announced that next year it will begin cutting the reach of brands’ unpaid posts deemed too promotional. It was the latest in a string of moves by the social network to reduce the advertorial cutter in its users’ news feeds. But instead of screaming bloody murder like it did two years ago when the first studies showed brands’ organic reach was shrinking, this time Madison Avenue’s collective reaction was cool.

“No blood pressures raised. Everybody was pretty calm about it,” said Peter Fasano, senior VP at Social@Ogilvy.

Sainsbury's Christmas Advert Dethrones Monty the Penguin on Viral Video Chart

This week’s Viral Video Chart is packed with newcomers. Seven of the chart’s ten entries made their debuts within week ending Sunday, and many of them muscled past entrenched favorites to win their spots.

For example, a Christmas short from Sainsbury’s knocked off John Lewis’s “Monty the Penguin” campaign to bow at number one. The Sainsbury’s spot, which takes inspiration from a small moment when enemy soldiers sang carols together on Christmas Eve during World War I, has picked up more than 9.4 million views since it went live earlier this week.

Turkish Airlines, Samsung, Purina, Sony and Sprint campaigns all made new appearances on the viral chart as well. Sony actually claimed two spots with very different campaigns. One, “Script to Screen,” advertises 4K televisions, while the other, “Friendly Competition,” promotes its most recent gaming system, the PlayStation 4.

Netflix Postpones Bill Cosby’s Comedy Special

The stand-up special, which was to be available next week, has been shelved as decades-old rape accusations have re-emerged.

Netflix Reverses Course, Shelves Plans for Cosby Special

Netflix has put off plans to run a comedy special starring Bill Cosby following new rape allegations against the comedian and actor.

“At this time we are postponing the launch of the new stand-up comedy special ‘Bill Cosby 77,'” Netflix said in a statement. The stand-up performance by the 77-year-old comedian was scheduled to go live on Nov. 28, the day after Thanksgiving.

Netflix acted after allegations resurfaced that Mr. Cosby drugged and raped women more than a decade ago. People familiar with the situation said earlier this week that executives at Netflix, the world’s largest subscription streaming service, had discussed the situation and still planned to run the show.

À primeira vista, a Impossible é realmente impressionante.
