Departing Conill CCO Gets Creative with Goodbye Note

We have no idea where Chief Creative Officer Ross Ludwig of L.A and Miami-based Publicis agency Conill–described as “Saatchi’s Latino unit“–is going.

But an anonymous tipster does tell us that he’s resigning after just under two years on the job. And we like his goodbye email, subject “Farewell”:
As most of you know by now, I am leaving Conill this week. However, you might not know the reason. I’ve always believed in being as open and honest as possible, so allow me explain. I am moving on to pursue my lifelong goal of becoming an Olympic Ice Dancer. It has been my dream since I was a little boy and I know that if I didn’t pursue this now, at this moment in time, I would never get

Master Blenders Pilão Decaf: Mendeleev

Film
Master Blenders

We wanted to prove that decaf coffee could be a “work companion” just like regular coffee, even without it’s waking capacities. To do so, we tried to prove that great things could be achieved after some sleep, through the example of famous works, by notorious men, done after a good night of sleep. Things created in dreams, or inspirited by them.

The ideia that we came up with, was to animate the story of how Mendeleev discovered the Periodic Table by dreaming with it. The animation was drawn, frame by frame, by hand on the computer. Mixing some 3D composition for the scenarios. In the end, each frame were retouched by a Clean-up artist, by hand also.

The texture treatment and mapping of the film was used to make reference to the ludic world of dreams, where thing don’t appear to be as “concrete”, as “real”, and also to the coffee world with it’s colors, textures and movement.

What Do Cool Young Asians Want? Here’s Heineken’s Out-of-the-Box Move

Pick up a bottle of Singapore’s iconic Tiger beer, and you’ll now notice a subtle change in the logo. The “g” in the name looks like an “8,” a lucky number in much of Asia.

That’s part of a new strategy from Heineken International, which took control of the Tiger brand two years ago, to emphasize the brand’s Asian identity. Along with revamped packaging, there’s a new Droga5 international campaign focusing on real stories about cool young Asians including a tattoo artist and a stuntman — who defied family or societal expectations to choose their own path. Tiger’s new slogan is “Uncage.”

Asian consumers traditionally gravitate toward pricier Western products as their spending power rises, but Heineken sees an opening for a premium Asian beer brand targeting upwardly mobile young consumers on the continent.

Kingsford Doesn’t Think Much of You High-Tech Grillers and Your Selfies

Kingsford Charcoal cooks up some strawmen in this ad from DDB California mocking the high-tech features of today's newest gas grills, which it dismisses as the playthings of lonely cyberchefs.

"The Social Grill" centers on the X4 Platinum, a fictional example of voice-activated, selfie-taking, photo-sharing patio gear. As the grill owner fumbles with the machine, his neighbor's guests look on judgmentally, despite the fact that lighting a grill with a smartphone app would actually be pretty cool.

Making fun of neighbors who put too much stock in costly gadgets is a trusty old saw in the advertising world, but surely there's something Kingsford could have done to make its "heroes" a bit more likable? Maybe at least offer the guy a beer and a burger?

Who's being antisocial now?
