Publicis Worldwide Names U.K. Chief Ahead of Omnicom Merger
Posted in: UncategorizedPublicis Worldwide CEO Arthur Sadoun has named former AKQA executive Guy Wieynk to the newly created position of CEO for the U.K. and the Nordics, part of an effort to establish a clearer identity for the network ahead of the planned merger between parent Publicis Groupe and Omnicom Group.
“The Publicis Worldwide brand is not clearly defined because it gets mixed up with Publicis Groupe,” Mr. Sadoun said. “At Cannes, we have moved up from 17th most creative agency three years ago to number seven. We hope we will soon move into the top five. We get 40% of U.K. revenues from digital, and 35% globally. What’s missing is collective direction.”
By the time Mr. Wieynk assumes the new job, however, the proposed merger may have finally been completed, making Publicis Worldwide a unit of a mega-sized agency holding company called Publicis Omnicom Group. Mr. Wieynk left his post as international VP at AKQA in January, but can’t take up the new role at Publicis Worldwide until the end of this year because of contract issues with AKQA owner — and Publicis Groupe rival — WPP.

Pitch update: Virgin Atlantic, Govt media buying, Game and BIS
Posted in: UncategorizedMore than 20 shops have been invited to participate in the global Virgin Atlantic advertising pitch, which is being run by Creativebrief. Those that have been selected to make it through to the next stage won t know until the week after next. One condition of the pitch document states that the client must not account for more than 30 per cent of an agency s billings this should see many of the shops invited fall like nine pins. Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y R is the 20-year incumbent.
The deadline for media agencies to respond to the Government s tender for its media buying business held by Group M s bespoke agency, M4C passed last week. The winning shop will handle the media buying for all projects, rather than sharing it with a roster of agencies, so the business is sure to be much in demand.

Meanwhile, the Department for Business, Innovation Skills pitch to find a shop to promote apprenticeships to young people will take place on 12 May. Claiming a Copyright on Marx? How Uncomradely
Posted in: UncategorizedCoke’s Recyling-Themed Arcade Game Accepts Empty Bottles Instead of Money
Posted in: Uncategorized
Would more people recycle if the process were actually fun? Coca-Cola and agency Grey Dhaka tried to answer that question by placing six "Happiness Arcade" machines around Dhaka, Bangladesh.
But these aren't just your run-of-the-mill video games. Unlike 2010's "Happiness Machines" these do not vend the soft drink itself; instead they work the opposite way, accepting empty soda bottles and rewarding the user with a turn playing a Pong-like game.
As you can see in the video below, the stunt drew quite a crowd, despite the relatively simplistic game. (I mean, when was the last time Pong made you grab a grown man and lift him off the ground in celebration?)
All told, the project collected thousands of bottles at six locations, which might not have a huge impact itself on a place as populous as Bangladesh, but the brand believes the effort helped by "making a case for recycling one game at a time."

UPDATE: Some commenters have noted the idea is similar to Volkswagen's "Bottle Bank Arcade" created by DDB Stockholm in 2009. Here's how that one worked:
