Hill Holliday’s Mike Sheehan Gives Up Chairman Title

Hill Holliday’s Mike Sheehan is giving up his chairman title,at the Boston-based ad agency, according to parent Interpublic Group.

Mr. Sheehan moved into the chairman role this May after serving as CEO for ten years and working at the agency for almost 30 years. He said at the time that he’d stay on as chairman for a two-year stint. Long-time employee Karen Kaplan succeeded him as CEO. Now, only months after that appointment, Ms. Kaplan will take on the chairman title, serving as both chairman and CEO. Ms. Kaplan has worked at the firm for over 30 years.

The move will enable Mr. Sheehan to pursue his advisory and investment roles outside of Hill Holliday, the agency stated in a release. “We respect that Mike is increasingly focused on a growing number of endeavors outside of the agency,” said IPG CEO and Chairman Michael Roth in a statement. “We thank Mike for his contributions and wish him well in this new phase of his life and career.”

Campbell Mithun Names David Carter Chief Creative Officer

Campbell Mithun has named David Carter its new chief creative officer.

Mr. Carter is the second major recruit CEO Rob Buchner has brought on since joining the Interpublic agency in July of last year. Mr. Buchner also hired Denis Budniewski as director-account leadership and growth from Fallon in the fall.

Mr. Carter has been freelancing and consulting for a little more than a year. Prior to that, he was senior creative director at BBDO in New York, a position he left at the end of 2012. Mr. Carter succeeds Heath Rudduck, who will remain at Campbell Mithun as exec creative director overseeing the agency’s digital and social-media departments — a move that Mr. Buchner said is Mr. Rudduck’s “natural strength.”

Mtn Dew Plans Big Spending Boost Behind Kickstart, Diet Dew

PepsiCo has a new pitch for soda drinkers: You can now Do the Dew all day long.

The marketer’s Mtn Dew brand is following last year’s successful Kickstart morning beverage launch with new flavors aimed at nighttime consumption. The flavors, called “Energizing” Black Cherry and Limeade, will be backed with a significant marketing investment, including ads that will debut during the Super Bowl pregame show on Fox on Feb. 2, said Greg Lyons, Mtn Dew’s VP for marketing.

Sometimes marketers “move on to the next shiny object and they don’t support things in year two,” he said. But Mtn Dew, he said, is “really leaning into year two on Kickstart and actually going to spend more on Kickstart in year two from a marketing standpoint than we did in year one.”

Visa

O amarelo da Visa era bem reconhecido, penso eu, e dava alguma razão de ser para a serifa ruim na letra “V”, que agora fica sendo, bem… apenas uma serifa ruim.

No vídeo abaixo, a empresa mostra a evolução da marca:

Culture, Startups and Legal Pot: An Insider’s Tour of Boulder, Colo.

Citizens rave about Boulder’s natural beauty, free spirit, plethora of intelligent and creative folks — and now, the legal availability of recreational marijuana. With a population of just over 100,000, the city benefits from being small, but also just a stone’s throw away from Denver’s airports, sports teams and anything else a big city might need. There’s also its central location: One can travel to either coast within a few hours.

AGENCIES

While the Sterling-Rice Group is Boulder’s oldest agency, many attribute the growing number of shops within the city to MDC’s Crispin Porter & Bogusky, which created a viral effect as ex-creative execs struck out on their own. Those include Made Movement (where former-Crispin creative Alex Bogusky is creative adviser); Victors & Spoils; and the newer Evolution Bureau office in Boulder.

Report Card: Paul Chibe’s Celebrity-Filled Legacy at A-B Gets Mixed Reviews

Anheuser-Busch InBev made headlines when the brewer recently announced its top U.S. marketing executive, Paul Chibe, would be leaving in the coming weeks. His replacement is Jorn Socquet, the brewer’s VP-marketing in Canada since 2010. Mr. Chibe has cited family reasons and the brewer said it was his decision. But his exit comes as A-B InBev faces pressure to boost the performance of Bud Light, which will debut a campaign in the Super Bowl.

Ace Metrix gave good scores to these ads, which feature the company’s highly respected regional brewmasters in a back-to-basics approach that put faces behind the brand. An innovative digital execution included an app that gives drinkers more information on how their individual beer was made. The brand also continued its “Grab Some Buds” ads by Anomaly, which helped Bud to a “strong year,” according to Ace Metrix.
