Carat Appoints Mediacom’s Alex Crowther as New General Motors Lead


Carat has hired MediaCom’s Alex Crowther to succeed Steven Feuling as the lead on its massive General Motors account.

The move comes as Carat promotes Mr. Feuling to the newly created role of chief client officer for Carat USA and global client president overseeing relationships with global clients based in North American with the exception of General Motors. Mr. Feuling took over the GM account when Carat President Martin Cass decided to leave the shop to pursue his MBA full-time.

As the third lead on the General Motors business in two years, Mr. Crowther’s appointment might signal unrest on the account. But according to Carat, Mr. Feuling’s move was in the cards. He had moved to Detroit from San Francisco to run the account, leaving his family behind on the West Coast. He’ll return to San Francisco in his new role.

World Cup Ads Runneth Over — Six Months Early


For many marketers, the World Cup has already kicked off in Brazil, six months ahead of the first soccer match — whether they’re sanctioned sponsors or not.

During the run-up to the final draw Dec. 6 to determine which of eight groups each of the 32 national teams will fall into, official World Cup bank Itau has played on Brazilian national pride. In a commercial by local ad agency Africa that cleverly mimics the official draw, anxious fans from different countries gather around their TV sets, hoping their national teams won’t have the misfortune to land in the same group as Brazil and be forced to face one of the most-formidable contenders early in the month-long soccer tournament.

Neighboring Uruguay is returning the favor with a promotional stunt that harks back to 1950, when Brazil last hosted the World Cup and was tipped to win before a humiliating loss to Uruguay in the final match. The Uruguayan team’s sponsor, Puma, along with Montevideo agency Notable, are reopening old wounds with “The Ghost of 1950,” a figure in a tattered blanket stamped with the number 50 who runs around Rio de Janeiro scaring Brazilians. A popular online video of the ghost proclaims “The Ghost of 1950 is in Brazil.”

No mercado de trabalho, esse hábito não é diferente, conforme resolveu mostrar a Pantene nas Filipinas, com filme produzido pela BBDO Guerrero, de Manila.

#WhipIt, Labels Against Women mostra que um homem é o chefe, enquanto uma mulher é mandona (em inglês, boss x bossy). Persuasivo x insistente, dedicado x egoísta, arrumado x vaidosa, tranquilo x exibida… tudo ao som de um belo cover de Mad World, dos Tears for Fears. A mensagem final também é bacana: “Não permita que os rótulos detenham você. Seja forte e brilhe” (esta última parte valendo para seus cabelos também, afinal, é um comercial de xampu).

É claro que não dá para negar que há momentos em que o contrário acontece, e a batalha de gêneros segue com os homens sendo diminuídos em relação às mulheres, mas é em uma escala muito menor. A guerra dos sexos é antiga, e ao que parece, ainda está longe de acabar. Infelizmente 🙁
