O Suede chegou como uma bomba atômica no cenário britânico dos anos 90 e ajudou a redefinir o britpop mesmo quando ele ainda estava sendo concebido.

Enquanto os blockbusters Blur e Oasis se engalfinhavam sob os holofotes da mídia para ver quem finalmente conquistaria os corações daquela geração, o Suede corria na estrada paralela e entrava na briga pelas margens, produzindo um pop tão brilhante quanto o de seus concorrentes do primeiro escalão, mas com uma dose um pouco mais carregada de David Bowie e Smiths na mistura.

O som do Suede era menos acessível na superfície, mas aqueles que se dedicaram encontraram álbuns que recompensavam a dedicação a cada repetida audição.

Sedutoramente dark, o Suede tinha peso, tinha sujeira e tinha, também, muito sex appeal.

Brett Anderson praticava um tipo de performance através da qual sua sexualidade exalava pelos poros, e a tensão sexual impregnava cada nota daquelas músicas. O resultado era um som não apelativo, mas extremamente malicioso e provocador.

Animal Nitrate foi o primeiro grande hit, em 1993, e fez do primeiro disco do Suede o álbum de estreia mais vendido da história do Reino Unido até então. O álbum seguinte, Dog Man Star e o disco de 2002, A New Morning são pequenas obras-primas do pop inglês que infelizmente nunca conseguiram fazer muito sucesso fora da Inglaterra.

Hoje, 11 anos depois do otimista A New Morning, o Suede volta à ativa para o delirio dos saudosos fãs do prolífico cenário pop/rock daquela época e lança mais um disco: Bloodsports.

O single It Starts And Ends With You prova que Anderson continua com seu dom para a melodia intacto, e faz a gente se perguntar porque será que a banda esperou tanto tempo se reunir.

Starring Julie Hagerty, the soft-spoken actress of Airplane move fame, we see an airplane full of people seating themselves in what can only be described as the most stylish and spacious airplane interior ever seen. Love that swank cockpit too!

ASICS Takes on Homing Pigeon in New Orleans

In VITRO’s latest spot for ASICS America, we wee a runner engaged in a different sort of workout – racing a homing pigeon through the streets of New Orleans. The runner pushes himself to keep up with a bird whose species, by the way has been clocked at upwards of 110 mph (who knew?)

The commercial is for the new GEL-Kayano 19 running shoe and also debuts ASICS’ new tagline “Nothing But Next.”

To film The Pigeon Workout, ASICS enlisted 70 trained pigeons, shooting at 11 locations in New Orleans including the French Quarter. ASICS’ “Pigeon Workout” will be airing on networks like ESPN, and TNT, including placement during NBA games.

Newsjacking London Fashion Week, PETA is out with a new video that features animals on the catwalk outfitted with human skin. We see elaborately-styled animals prancing down the cat walk until they unveil themselves. We are then taken backstage to a gruesome scene where humans are skinned to clothe the animal/models.

Of course this isn’t directly how fashion shows happen but indirectly it does and PETA would like to put a stop to it.

Dance Champs Sam and Lisa Do ‘Wet Dog Wiggle’ For Kayak

Barton F. Graf 9000 hooked up with dance champions Sam and Lisa West for their latest Kayak work. Sam is a 6 time champion of the Carolina Shag Division at the USA Grand National Dance Championships and a 3 time US Open Shag Champion. Lisa is winner of the 1997 US Open Cabaret Championship and two-time winners of the American Swing Dance Championships in the Showcase Division.

The two can be seen doing the Wet Dog Wiggle and the Chattanooga Chicken on their way to the registration desk of a hotel for a stay which they, of course, booked using Kayak.
