Dell, eBay, Sephora Offer Virtual Gifts on Facebook

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Digital gifts used to mean iPods and GPS devices. Call it a product of a flagging economy, or maybe even eco-conscious guilt, but the term has come to entail something entirely different — not to mention weightless and wholly pixilated. Virtual gifts — tiny icons displayed on user profiles, pioneered by Facebook as the intangible present of choice — are being employed by several major companies this season.

Just Don’t Lose Your Phone In America

iJustine (Justine Ezarik) and Karen Nguyen are internet famous.

With that fact in mind, AT&T hoped to borrow some of the ladies equity to sell more phones, but Ad Age, for one, isn’t impressed.

So far, AT&T and its vloggers have published 11 episodes, produced by Tremor Media, but it’s hard to imagine anyone watching more than one, if that. The series is heavy on AT&T, but light on storyline, unless you find it interesting that Justine could be booted out of the competition if she drops her phone a fifth time.

How about you? Does AT&T’s “Lost In America” content work make you want to buy an expensive phone with even more expensive monthly services?

Breaking: Grey SF’s Guy Seese Departs Three Days After Betsy Sperry

adjudge_thumb_seese1.jpg

AgencySpy has learned that just three days after Managing Director Betsy Sperry‘s relationship with Grey SF ended, ECD Guy Seese also left the agency, said a source close to the matter.

Seese began his stay at Grey earlier this year.

That leaves Brad Fogel in complete control of the agency. Seese, who left Monday, was not available for comment, nor was Grey SF.

4 out of 5 headless women prefer Treximet

Treximet copy

Now and then, the warm and fuzzy world of morning TV gets interrupted by a vision from hell. That’s the case with this ad for migraine medication Treximet, now airing during The Martha Stewart Show and the like. It starts off unexceptionally, with a close-up of a woman’s face as she describes her migraines. But soon it becomes clear she has bigger problems—her head seems to have come off entirely. She’s cradling the throbbing thing in her arm, and has a gaping hole in her neck where the head used to be. All of this takes place at a suburban school-bus stop, adding to the Lynchian vibe. (Her son takes his mom’s appearance in stride, but doesn’t like to look directly at her.) Over the top or not, the spot is memorable. And migraine sufferers, not known for understating their level of pain, might actually appreciate the horror-movie theme. Read more at the Treximet site.

Adobe’s ‘Agency of Record’ About 6 Mins too Long

Not going anywhere for a really long time? Then check out Adobe’s new Web show, ‘Agency of Record’, which gives a behind the scenes look at the ad-world from the perspective of a low-ranking designer at made-up agency WTF Worldwide.

The show is a branding tool for Adobe; in the first episode, main character Sierra uses creative suite to save the day when her whacked-out bosses lose their shit during crunch time. The ad-world parody is well produced, and the zany bosses are fun to watch, but at a whopping 9:02, we’re not sure people will stick around to view the whole thing.

We posted it above, so take a peak and be the judge. How does ‘AoR’ stack up against other Web shows you’ve seen?

One final note: as a branding tool, the show is a brave leap from traditional content. Could this be Adobe’s first step away from Goodby? The Delaney Report recently hinted at a split from their AoR, but we’ll have to see if that pans out.
