Posted in: Uncategorized
WASHINGTON (AdAge.com) — It may seem like one of those dull technical matters, but the Federal Trade Commission's decision to withdraw its endorsement of the Cambridge Filter Method is the latest of a thousand cuts killing tobacco marketing. The latest step will likely force tobacco marketers to give up on "low tar" claims and, more importantly, will make it easier for critics to go after "light" cigarettes.

MINNEAPOLIS (AdAge.com) — In "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," Lucy never does let Charlie Brown kick the football. And Brooke Burke didn't let former football player Warren Sapp kick up his heels as the winner of "Dancing with the Stars," either, as the TV personality and mother of four won the ABC dancing competition. Both shows combined gave ABC the Nielsen competition in the ratings race for the ad-centric adult 18-49 demographic, as the network won with an overall 4.5/12 rating and share, well above Fox (3.6/10), CBS (3.2/9), NBC (2.8/7) and the CW (.4/1).

Posted in: UncategorizedIf nothing else, be thankful for all the beer!
Posted in: UncategorizedAs if we needed further encouragement to crack open a few beers on Thursday, the National Beer Wholesalers Association is telling us that beer—and lots of it!—is now a mandatory part of any Thanksgiving meal. The trade group trots out Brasserie Beck’s Bill Catron, a D.C. beer expert who’s actually earned a Belgian knighthood for his knowledge of the stuff, to offer guidance: He suggests matching a cold, crisp pilsner with appetizers like shrimp; a ‘spicy’ blond ale with pumpkin soup; red Flemish ale with leafy greens; and Witt ale with cranberry sauce. After all that, you may have lost interest in the main course, but for those soldiering on with solid food, there’s triple style ale to wash down the turkey and stuffing. And (God forbid) there’s also beer with dessert, whether it’s a Bier de Miel with pumpkin pie or Framboise Lambics with chocolate. If some of your more teetotal guests take issue with chef John Barleycorn’s menu, blame it on the Pilgrims who, according to the NBWA, landed at Plymouth Rock with beer!
